WE NEED MORE CHRISTIAN ROCK AMVS!!!

Post by Topside » Mon Oct 06, 2003 7:38 pm

Before I begin, I gotta say, I really am impressed by the sheer volume of Christian rock AMVs there are on this site. There's even one done to a Starflyer 59 song, and nobody's heard of SF59 but the most diehard of Christian rock fans! (And yes, I am one!)

Even so, we need more. Many more. For every band that is repped here on AMV-Org, there are a dozen or so who remain in the realms of obscurity. (Kinda like secular radio, but I digress.) WE MUST KEEP THEM COMING!!! Here are a few personal requests that I myself may fulfill once I acquire the means...

Noir-All Fall Down (GRITS)
Vampire Hunter D-Bring Me To Life (Evanesance)
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040-Dark Divine (Fold Zandura)
Dragon Ball Z-King Planet (also Fold Zandura)
Sailor Moon-Deep Surround (again with Fold Zandura)
Spriggan or FF7-Avalanche (can you tell I'm a big Fold Zan fan?)
Ceres-Fly (Jars of Clay)
Noir or Lain-Frail (Jars of Clay)
.hack-Monosynth (Joy Electric)
Record of Lodoss War-We Are Rock (Joy Electric)

More to come... Thanks again, you guys!

I'll admit, there has been some conflict over whether or not Evanesance is a Christian band. According to my sources, they played at a couple of Christian music festivals back in their heyday. At this point, it's not certain what direction they'll take. Time will tell; I just hope we haven't seen another one-hit wonder come and go.

Evanescence isn't a christian rock band....

And they won't be a one hit wonder if they go back to the good shit they played on their first album Origin, dunno why they rerecorded the songs that they brought over to their other cd, the origionals were actually better o.O

Many bands could fall under that same category though ("started" as a Christian band and then went mainstream). Includes P.O.D., MxPx, Creed, Stryper (ugh), and a few more. But ask any of these bands yourself, and they'll say that they never really were a Christian band to start with. Just happened to be on a Christian label or mention God a few times in their earlier albums. It's all kind of rediculous.

I'd even be wary to call SF59 a Christian band. Again, on a Christian label (and ya know, it's hard to even really consider Tooth & Nail to be a Christian label any way.. They just happen to have a big collection of Christian bands signed), but from their actual lyrical content, there's not a whole lot there in terms of lyrics about Christian faith.

But on the subject of AMVs, I saw a Love Hina (I think) video to a DC Talk video back a while that was actually really good. Although it was to one of their more "secular" sounding songs (Since I Met You).

Ok I know larry norman was considered too secular to be christian and too christian to be secular but dammit then where does he belong?

AtomX, while I hear your point about SF59, I think if you asked them, they'd say they're a Christian band. Their lyrics rarely if ever reflect this, true, but nevertheless, they know where they stand.

A lot of bands ride the line, if you will. A few, like MxPx, go totally secular (though there remains some debate about that particular band). Others stick it out, maintaining the Christian label while attracting many non-Christian fans.

Fame is a funny thing. It can make you forget why you do what you do. Time is the only real test of a band's flow. I won't knock a Christian band for going pop, and I won't knock a pop bad if they "repent," if you will. Even so, one has to wonder, what are they really in it for?

But that's WAAAAAAAAAAAY off the subject. Let's drop this dispute right here, shall we? We came here for the AMVs! :D

Staying off-topic, as it pertains to your comment about SF59, I'm sure most of the bands that I listed, if asked what their beliefs were, would say that they were Christians. That doesn't necesarilly mean that their band is a Christian band. That's just not their ministry. It's like, if the members of Metallica were Buddhist, Metallica wouldn't necesarilly be a Buddhist band. That's mainly what I'm trying to say.

And on topic, there was also a Trigun video to a song by The Insyderz (a Christian ska band). And I was planning on doing one to a Ghoti Hook song

Actually after doing some searching, I have found:
7 Five Iron Frenzy vids (whom I am going to see tonight :D:D:D)
5 DC Talk vids
2 Thousand Foot Krutch vids
5 Newsboys vids
2 Stavesacre vids
10 Audio Adrenaline vids
3 Living Sacrifice vids (well, 3 versions of 1)
12 Michael W. Smith vids (not rock but thought of it cause I love silver_moon's vid)
And I dont feel like searching any more

While I'm not sure if this would be considered Christian Rock or not (personally, I like to see it as such, but I can't speak for others)

Been tempted to make a Trigun vid using Norman Greenbaum's 'Spirit In The Sky' (as sung by Wolfwood)

(/shameless, but nevertheless on topic, pluggery)
