Rap and AMVs
I'm white. Like Really really white. We're talking German/Scottish/English. But I'm going through this Rap Phase Musicly. and I was wondering if any of you have attempted AMVs with Rap Music and what the result was.
For a long time I wanted to use Some Snoop Dogg with Tenchi, but very recently my friend turned me on to The Streets and a song called "Let's Push things Forward." I'm thinking about mixing that song with a bunch of different animes to fit each Phrase. in this case the rapper's cadence is such that I can have the action of the video about what he's saying without relying on my lacking lipsync skills.
So Tell me what you think about my Idea and using Rap as a whole.

I saw a rap amv for InuYasha a while ago.
It was a kinda slow rap, but still rap. I liked it alot (im not even that much of a rap fan either)
I would think it's rather difficult to incorperate the clips with the lyrics of certain rap songs, but someone with amv making experience could most likely do it.

I think that your idea could turn out very well. I'm really white too (Irish, German, French) and there is a good amount of rap that I dig (or at least find hilarious). And as soon as I finish working on my current vid, I'll be starting a rap one. So, I guess this really wasn't much help to you, as I haven't actually done a rap AMV. But, I have seen some, and most of them were pretty good (one of my fav's that I've seen is this video done to House of Pain's Jump Around. I think the vid was just entitled JUMP! or something like that).

It's Tricky To Make A Music Video <--well establsihed AMV imo
Tornado Vasectomy <--probably more of what ur looking for here
Kung Fu Fighting awww, one of my favs
Tainted Donuts just because it's japanese (i think) doesn't mean it's not rap, which reminds me of a Yu-Gi-Oh AMV done to a rap song
... meh, i might as well post it too, not a lot of well done Yu-Gi-Oh AMVs out there, especially not with rap songs
Shadows <--enjoy it, you won't find many like it
no thnx necessary, just make sure that next time i make one of these lists, ur on there

its hard to make a good rap amv using "real" rap because "real" rap is the most honest and emotional type of music one can use, because more than anyhting its an expresion of vioce and is usualy based on the rappers life and experiences (thats for real rappers like xibit and tupac, not shithole talentless egotistical idiots like ja rule and 50cent)

when ppl talk about the 'gansta' rap as some would put it, that's the rap world's equivalent to rock's 'punk' rock or maybe 'heavy metal' rock would be a better example
the kind of rap music i like and is true hip hop is still considered in the 'hip hop' catagory, true artists like Tupac and Nas (imo) who put actual content into their lyrics are the greater rap artists, again imo. the type of rap that i DON'T like is the kind that gets the most recognition, the kind that promote things like heavy drinking, objectifing women, breaking the law because you can, because that type of rap goes to such extremes in it's writings, it gets all the publicity, and it ruins what hip hop and rap imo should be about, living through adversity, being witness to the darker sides of life and being above to rise above all of that. partying is DEFINATELY a part of hip hop because it promotes togetherness and unity, but NOT partying in the sense that ppl are throwing money at women to make them strip while you pour Don Perignon on them, but partying in the sense that everyone is having a good time usually dancing and yes drinking, but not 'knockin bak forteez'
rapping about a luxurious life involving shiny cars, fine women who when mentioned are objectified or ultimately only sex objects for the night does not sound like something i would like to do... unless no one would find out about it
<_<
>_>
<_>
i'd rather hear content than voluntary exploitation
Rap IS harder to do in AMVs because of the lengthy lyrics, there is a lot of material to cover and a lot of times, the material gets really specific and is hard to generalize, Rock on the other hand, while sometimes CAN be about specific events (ie Rage Against The Machine) most times the subject matter speaks in general so that it can relate to a wider audience instead of telling a specific story.
also, rap songs in general do not really on the musical background to help a song progress, background music (which is extremely useful in AMVs) is only there to help give the rapper a sense of rhythm to feed off of, so following the lyrics is very key in rap amvs

yeah i agree. i also hate the whole pop culture ideal that all of theys "rapers" bring along. like theyhave any actual talent ? reord companies just piced them up from the street and gave them some money in exchange for them to say a few words. and the whole treatment of women is just ludicris, its sexist and it actualy sucks girls into this ideal because of its impact on pop culture. as xibit said in paparazi "it dont make sence, iether your a raper from the start or an actor with a recod deal trying to play the part"
oh and, im listening to il see you when you get thier now, by coolio. that would be great for an amv, so would alot of his other songs. with rap, ya just have to think a bit diferently when making an amv.
oh and, i was talking with a freind yesterday, and he said "why do people like tupac, biggie and aaliyah have to die while shitheads like ja rule and 50cent live ?" so, so true[/url]

cause ppl don't like to hear the truth, an artist goes around telling it like it is or making some success off of something actually GOOD and ppl get jealousbum's friend wrote:why do people like tupac, biggie and aaliyah have to die while shitheads like ja rule and 50cent live
these artists without content just go around making catchey songs getting rich but not really getting away from the violent life-style, so they are safer than the few that try to better their situation
