Are EVA AMV's DOA?

Post by mister_freeze2 » Thu Feb 26, 2004 11:01 pm

As the topic asks, are EVA amv's passe' nowadays or is there still life in the series yet? I was thinking of starting an amv project using the new footage from the director's cut DVD's set to either Evanesence One Last Breath, Coldplay Clocks, or this funky/rock track called Trigger from In Flames. Input is obviously very much appreciated, as are suggestions for other tracks.

If NGE AMVs are "passé", I think I'm in big trouble.

I like to think that it's not so much the series as what you do with it.

Yes and no.

Action vids, conventional drama vids, profiles for the main characters, have been done and outdone.

This isn't to stop you if you plan to make one.

But let's not deny that anything should be possible.

I'd just urge people to go out and try something as unusual as possible, things that haven't been done for it. And, good comedy always has possible openings.

***

So, to sum it up: it's not dead per se, and you can do whatever you want with it, but I strongly suggest you try and approach it from an angle that hasn't been overdone.

And Scintilla, with the way you did it, you wouldn't be in trouble. Word to your mother.

It's not the series thats lost it's flair it;s the creators of the AMVs. So basically don't use too much of the footage that others use, make sure it fits the music well and add your own personal flair to it and you should do fine.

So what if it's been done before? Just make it.

Sure, you may not please eleventy billion people with your "unoriginal" idea, but who gives a rat's ass? I did an Evangelion video with almost no action shots, hardly any movement, and only cross-dissolves; no-one but me is going to like that crap, but so what?! I had a blast making it, and damn anyone who tries to tell you not to do it ^^;;.

Hell, two years ago at AWA, Brad DeMoss gave someone a judge's award called something like "Keeping the EVA Videos Alive" award, just because it was a really good EVA video. That tells ya' something... there's still always going to be an audience, even if it's just you ^^.

Just have fun... forget the other folks.

x2 to what EX said as well; just remember why you're making it, and there shouldn't be a problem.

Besides, considering my activity of late - I'm an offender at this too  And I can't say I'm not happy.

If Eva videos have ever been kept alive, one of the people to thank is probably ErMaC
he's done soo many eva videos and i think they all give something special to the series, i don't think any of them are like the rest, except that The End of Me is like the best things from all of them... drama wise anyway, that video didn't have the kind of humor i found in Just Can't Take It
keepin in mind that that video wasn't suppose to have humor, i just found it extremely hilarious when Shinji would lip sync Michael Jackson's little random yells in the song

so yeah, like EX says, it really doesn't matter who sees the AMVs outside of who it was intended for
If you're reading this, you've gone too far...PREPARE FOR RETRIBUTION!!
Don't judge an AMV by it's anime.. u nooB ;D

But I still would like to see more people put different spins on Eva; making a video just for yourself is only half the fun.

I suggest going around and downloading a few good Eva vids and seeing what they do; and ErMaC's are certainly up there.

I'm making an EVA vid right now, so I sure hope that they're not dead. And my EVA vid has no drama, and no action. Heck, I didn't even get any clips that even showed the entire outside of a single EVA. And the vid is even set to rap.
