Looking for beggars...

Post by pen-pen2002 » Sat Mar 13, 2004 2:37 am

Calling all vagabonds, tramps, drifters, and hobos.

I'm working on an AMV idea that I'm really exited about but I have one major problem. The song has three distinct characters, one of which is a beggar. I can find matches for the other two but for the life of me I can't think of any anime that has a beggar. Token appearances are nice, but ideally I need a character with enough screen time to fill a verse.

If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated. Oh, and it doesn't have to be too literal, be as creative as you like.

Thanks a lot!

here's the lyrics:

We've all seen the man at the liquor store beggin' for your change
The hair on his face is dirty, dreadlocked and full of mange
He ask the man for what he could spare with shame in his eyes
Get a job you fuckin' slob's all he replied

Tokyo Godfathers. The main characters are all bums, and one of them (Gin), could be put into that rather easily.

Hmm... just wondering, are you looking for any sort of beggars at all, or, say, modern beggars? Medieval beggars?

One I can think off from the top of my head is the bum from Escaflowne.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Nice catch. That will be perfect if I decide to go for the straight lyric sync. Thanks.

I've never seen it, but I'll check it out if they have it at wizzywigs.

I'm not sure at this point. I may try for a straight forward lyric sync in which case I would probably use a modern beggar. But I might do just about anything. I've even toyed with the idea of finding a well known anime character who is kind of a free loader and using them as a joke. The rest of the song ("What It's Like" by Everclear) is pretty serious though.

The other parts are about a girl who gets an abortion when her boy friend abandons her (misato maybe but it's sort of overdone) and a guy who "hangs with thugs" and ends up getting killed in a gunfight (just about anything with guns, cowboy bebop and trigun would both work, although trigun would be a challenge to make serious and there both well used.)

Another song I might use is "put your lights on" if I can come up with a theme/analysis that makes sense.

Any suggestions/comments/what the hell where you smoking questions, would be appreciated.

::smiles:: knowing which song that is
"To have to lose..." hobos , I'd have to agree that which hunter
robin is the best place to look.

That weapon smith guy from trigun, that made a gun and sold it to some guy who later used it to kill his family. I think.

He looks like a bum, plus he's all over Vash, begging him to buy him liquor.

I'd say he's a candidate. :)

Cowboy Bebop

Post by wiserd » Fri Mar 19, 2004 12:13 am

Not a perfect fit, but there are plenty of derelicts in Cowboy Bebop. I don't remember offhand if any are actually beggars, but it wouldn't surprise me.
