AMVs: Watch them windowed or full-screen?

Post by inthesto » Mon Apr 05, 2004 8:36 pm

Up until last night, I had been watching all my AMVs windowed. I'm not quite sure what size I put them at, but it's probably somewhere a little bigger than 640 x 480 (assuming they use a multiple of that resolution). By leaving it in windows, a lot of AMVs look like they have good video quality.

However, I decided by fluke to full-screen the AMVs I have, and I noticed a really huge difference. Some AMVs degraded noticeably, while others still looked crystal-clean. I never really realized there could be such a big difference in quality until now.

Needless to say, I'm leaving things in windows so I don't ruin the experience for myself.

Full screen, all the time. Unless it's just really low resolution. In which case, I'll watch it at 200%.

I always watch full screen. Its a totally better experience. You just don't see it the same way in a teeny little window...
Regarding video quality... thats why people are always saying fansubbed footage and low bitrate encoding suck :p

Yeah, I finally realized that. I always wondered "Why are people so anal about good compression?"

Unfortunately, I lack the sheer hard drive space to work with non-loss codecs.

I like to watch AMVs full-screen. Every Friday, I use LCD projectors to show AMVs on screens that are at least 60" diagonal for the local anime club.

I care a lot about good compression :)

I watch in Full Screen if I want to sit back away from the computer and enjoy videos. But if I'm wearing headphones, which forces me to sit close to the screen since my wireless ones are broken then I prefer to watch them windowed.
