Ever had this happen?

Post by ReannaKing » Mon Apr 26, 2004 10:34 pm

Ever slave away months on a video, putting blood, sweat and tears into it until you convinced yourself it was a decent video... and then after five months of work put it up and find maybe it's not as good as you thought?

Share your feelings.

Yup. It's Phantasmagoria. Took 3 months of my life. Heh heh heh. I thought I put enough effort into it to make me collapse after watching it, but I didn't quite get that effect. Even still, I get that motion AMV high I crave.

off cource, this is bound to happen. as your skils as an amv'er improve then so do your expectations, and you start to get a beter feel of what is and what isnt a good amv. when i saw my first few i thought they we're fucking amazing. a few months down and i cant stand to watch them for longer than 3 seconds, thier absolute shit. also, when i first created my first amv and uploaded it (here, if ya care to watch something sacreligios ) i thought it was fucking amazing. now when i look back at it,.......................god that was an awsome idea. i mean, seriosly, but errr, the actual editing was prety sub-par

Not really. I can get a bit negative when I'm just done the video, but looking back at my videos - they all did what I wanted them to. Maybe it's a matter of adjusting expectations. I mean, it'd be naive for me to think that my first video would be a wonderful work when I never even touched video editing before getting to it.

To me, what matters is that I like it  Although having a few others that do is a bonus.

Yeah, that'd be understandable if I hadn't been doing AMVs for over a year and this wasn't my twenty-first AMV.

Well, I didn't mean it worked just for first AMV's. There's always limits to expectations.

I'm of a similar attitude to all my AMV's. None of them are great works or anything, but all do what I wanted them to, at the level I wanted them to. It'd be naive for me to think anything could be perfect

Anyway, that's just me. But for me, personal artistic satisfaction with the video is key. And don't worry. From my observation, there's always at least 3 people who like it, and that's good enough. Heck, every one of my crappy videos has 3 people who loved it before they were even released (and that's why most of them are ever released. I wouldn't want to subject anyone lest I was sure there's enough masochists out there to get the mileage out of them :P)

Compare how many vids you have all made though.
ReannaKing: 24
Fyrtenheimer: 6

I'm just saying, after that many videos, it's bound to happen a few times. Starts as a good idea, you go through with it, and you realize it was only a momentary high. Probably should have sat with the idea longer, play it a few more times in your head, and determine if it's what you really want.

You'd think after that many videos though, that you would no longer care.
