This is the wrong forum, this forum is for sharing or giving opinions on AMVs. I think this might be General? Not too sure though, a mod will move it anyway. Also your sig is too big, there's a 40px high limit on sig images.
To answer your question, I also have a crappy ass computer and my ram is 320.

There are ways to make your system run much faster. Just use all of the tools in your bag. Things like bait and switch, and turn off the little images in your timeline bar. Render to ram. Clean your HD.
I run a 3.2ghz with a gig of ram, and still have issues sometimes. There is no computer fast enough that it won't slow down if you throw enough stuff at it.
BTW, why did you post this in the opinion exchange?

Build a man a fire, and he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

I highly recomend bait and switch for low end systems.
I rip DVD's using a desktop but all the editing I do on a laptop that is 1.5 ghz 256 Mb of RAM and a 20 gig HDD. With bait and switch the editing is in realtime execpt for during transitions and effects, which makes it a lot easier to fine tune things without having to wait for previews to render.
