What makes a music video [enjoyable] in your opinion?
This was inspired by Sporkmaster.
I would just like to know what makes a music video a music video in your own opinion. Mine is something that you enjoy to watch no matter how good or bad it is. Even if it has the worst reviews ever as long as you like the song and anime it could be the best one you ever saw.

You're asking what makes a music video a *good* music video. There's a thread on that - try looking on the second page if it isn't at the bottom of this one. It's different for everyone, but most of the people who would reply to you have already replied to that thread. Read it and they won't have to repeat themselves. ^.~
Now...if you wanted to know what makes a music video a music video, I'd say video edited to fit music - preferably anime for the video since I like anime music videos more than regular music videos. As long as the footage has been 'edited' in some way to match up with the music, it's a music vid. But that's just me.

That's pretty much the definition of 'good' around here. If no one enjoys watching a video, no one thinks it's good because it isn't enjoyable. If you enjoy a video, then you think it's 'good' at making you happy (fitting the requirements for enjoyment specific to you). But if you differentiate between good and enjoyable, then I guess it could be different from the other thread. I'd be interested to see how many others separate good from enjoyable. ^.~obh04 wrote:Like something thing that you enjoy watching.
[I don't separate the two, though I do consider vids I hate to be 'good' if enough other people enjoy them. But I'd just be saying the same thing again, what it takes for me to 'enjoy' something is the same as what it takes for me to think a video is 'good.' I'll try a copy and paste to see if the two work for your thread.]

So for a[n] '[enjoyable]' vid, according to my tastes, you need to have characters I like, or a song I like, or even just a theme that I like. You need to have editing that I like and a 'gimmic' that I like (whether it's some visible effects to spice it up, or merely a new spin on an old concept). You need to have quality so that I can see the video without too much interference (excess fuzz/blocks/subtitles), and audio that I can hear without scratches or hisses making me turn it off halfway through. You need to format it so that I don't have to run all over trying to play it - if it's a hassel to play, it's not an enjoyable pastime to watch. A[n] [enjoyable] video is one I enjoy watching. But even if you combine all of those things, I can't guarantee that I'll think the video is [enjoyable] - I'd still have to see it first.

Music + video = music video. Perhaps I'm missing the point of the question but isn't the answer rather obvious?obh04 wrote:I would just like to know what makes a music video a music video in your own opinion.

Don't take it the wrong way, I just encourage necroposting over similar threads. I don't mean to derail your discussion - I think my pasted post fits the theme you were aiming at - what makes an anime music video a music video to each person. To me, it has to be a music video I enjoy. For me to enjoy it, it needs the things I mentioned. ^.~obh04 wrote:I don't know now. When I was writing this I knew what I meant and I still do but I just don't know how to say it. So post or don't post. Arigatomyna is making me all confused about what i want to say.

Really this question came from Sporkmaster and I thougth it would make a good topic. And how I see this question I think of it as what makes the AMV enjoyable to you. But however you interpet the question "What makes a music video a music video" could be different from mine. So what everwhat you interpet it as you sould but down as you answer to my question.
I know you don't mean any harm Arigatomyna.

I droped a note in the mod box that this title might need revising. Hopefully that will clear up the confusion.
As for me, what makes an AMV enjoyable is first and foremost the music. If I like the song chances are I will like the AMV unless it is very poorly done in which case my fondness for the song will cause me to strongly dislike it. These are typically the only AMV's I deleate off my HDD, the ones that take a good song and really don't do it justice.
I also like videos that are emotionally powerful (Action, Drama, Horror... Not so much Romance.) Also I can forgive a LOT for a very original video. Good storytelling is also a big plus in my book.
And of course, in comedy all bets are off.
