I HATE YOU XP SERVICE PACK 2!!!!!
So, never suspecting a thing, I had automatic updates on my computer. I find one day it's installed "XP Service Pack 2" on my computer.
So, I get inspred to make a music video and I rip all my anime DVDs to my computer, which takes more than a week to do, because there is a LOT of them (that's my God created external drives with )
SO, I am half way through a video I put my heart and soul in when things start to go real wiggy on my computer. What's wrong?
OF COURSE ITS THE DAMN XP 2 SERVICE PACK. So, I had to do an uninstall then a restore on my computer.
Bottom line, XP 2 was doing something really screwey to the rips, (don't know why) but it was. They were ALL messed up and totally unusable, AND I HAVE TO RIP ALL THEM ALL OVER AGAIN!
Plus, I lost the video because it was made from the screwy rips, and have to start THAT over again TOO, after I re-rip these DVDs.
I am so disgusted.
You know you are crazy to do a video when you will go through this much abuse, chalk up to experience, and try try again.
Thank you Bill Gates!!!!!!!!!!
So, here's some advice, DO NOT ACCEPT THE SERVICE PACK 2 FOR XP! It's major trouble. What pisses me off is, it's like Microsoft is trying to force you to take the service pack, because most of the updates I DO want, I can only get now THROUGH the service pack. That pisses me off.
(Please, no Microsoft phobics give me any advice to change over to Linux. It ain't happening')

Are you sure it's SP2? None of the video tools I use on XP have broken.

Oh, and this is really funny:

Microsoft isn't forcing a thing. If you dislike their products, don't use them. (Besides, there's other alternatives besides GNU/Linux systems, you know.)(Please, no Microsoft phobics give me any advice to change over to Linux. It ain't happening')

SP2 gave me some probs too. It slowed down my comp more and more until it took anywhere from one to twelve hours to start up. And then I could hardly do anything once it did. And I couldn't even reformat, because the reformat always froze. So I had to take it in to get repaired, and even the repair guy couldn't fix it so he had to call the manufacturers of the HDD and have them help.
But I know it doesn't cause most people probs.
I've never gotten any windows updates since I got it fixed, and my comp runs fine... except for that time when lightning fried my sound card and screwed up my comp.

Well, I DO know plenty of people that had to restore after XP service Pack 2.
My husband is a network engineer, and he gave the word to me, one minute too late NOT to download the service pack. TOO LATE. Automatic updates had already done it for me.
But yes, it did screw up the DVDs, HOW and why I am not sure. All I know is they are now ripping beautifully and looking real high quality.
When I was ripping under XP2, I kept getting a sort of "warped" look to the rip and getting messages there could be playback problems.
Whatever, XP2 was doing, it cleared up when I removed it, because the rips are beautiful now.
Trust me, XP2 is tester. They are using YOU as guinea pigs, waiting for the complaints and errors so they can fix the bugs.
I don't want my computer to be a guinea pig for microsoft.

Ha. I don't use XP, nor linux. 98 always worked for me, and will work until an actually better version of windows comes along... (hopes for Longhorn?)
Don't like SP2, switch to 98 or 2000 or something. It doesn't do much against functionality (arguably, these could even be more functional), especially when it comes to video editing; and they'll run just fine on any current PC.
Besides, what's so seriously new about SP2 being unstable? Where have you been since microsoft started making systems?

Re: I HATE YOU XP SERVICE PACK 2!!!!!
I was with you up to this point. Can't you just delete the bad rips with good rips and continue your video? After all, this is basically what the switching method of editing does. As long as the rips timecodes are the same whatever editing program you use wouldn't know the difference.valeyard wrote:Plus, I lost the video because it was made from the screwy rips, and have to start THAT over again TOO, after I re-rip these DVDs.
