Sharing AMVs with Direct Connect.

Post by Moonzag » Mon Nov 08, 2004 7:26 pm

Hi, I hope I won't bother too many hare, and I hope you won't mind me using this forum for comercial, but it's about sharing AMVs.

This site and forum is really great, but personaly I prefere downloading my AMVs with Direct Connect. Why you ask? Isn't nice to que up a few GB of AMVs from some user with 10MBit connection? And just recently (a few minutes ago) my old studio mate, Calle_C started a Direct Connect hub for AMVs! Right now we are few users, and it's only me thats has a pure AMV-share. But we still have a lot of AMVs, and the more users the more AMVs, duh. There is a minimum share of 10GB AMVs per users right now.

The big downfall with Direct Connect is that many users share other things than wanted since they may also want to enter other hubs. I will only share AMVs, and I hope that goes for the rest of the people here. Since this is a brand new hub we will be soft on the rules so there will be idiots sharing, let's say unwanted stuff... guess three times what... :P

The three rules are:

1. Share 10gb of AMV's, although now in the beginning it's enough with 10gb anime
2. No porn, but hentai is ok
3. Have some slots but not too many, if you're on dsl don't have more than 4-5..

I dissagree with the first one, I don't want anime! I want AMVs. And I dissagree with the second one, no hentai! Damn, there are kids here. I'll see if I can talk some sense in to Calle_C and make it a pure AMV-hub, but for that I need more users backing me up. But we do have some friends from other hubs so there would still be a few. ^^;;

The hub is on a Swedish server, but it's a good server and there is not many users right now so there should not be a problem connecting.

Please don't make this in to a flaming war about downloading anime or music. This is an AMV hub I'm talking about!

Anyway, check the hub out before you flame, lick, delete this thred or whatever. the address is amv.no-ip.org. And it is NOT and URL for a website if you don't know what Direct Connect is.

If you don't know what Direct Connect is read this:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6512 and if you didn't get it just google.

And I recommend the DC-klients DC++ or BCDC++.

Thank you for taking your time reading this, and if you liked the idea of sharing AMVs this way just pay us a visit!

Heh, I think it's appropriate enough to plug something like this here; personally though, I'll be damned if anyone but a user with a T1 line can give me faster speeds than the .org server.

Granted, I suppose for others this may be different, and I'd imagine connections to the local server are slower in Sweden and Europe in general, where there are, at the same time, a lot of users on good broadband.

My paranoia fears Direct Connect, and therefore has it firewalled.

Granted, I'll admit DC was probably the most functional one of those I had a chance to use.

I'll bet your computer doesn't randomly lock up for periods of five minutes at a time when DC++ is open.

I minimize the use of that program as best I can.

Well, I get better speed from many at DC... It's nice to download AMVs with 8Mbit DSL. Too bad I only have 1Mbit upload. :P

And Sweden do have great ISP's.

...that said though, I got some great AMV's off direct connect at a certain time a couple of years ago when I forgot about the .org's existence for a bit. So it has been of some influence to my eventually getting here and starting to make AMV's.

Wasn't there a discussion a few months ago here about people setting up their own DC hub for AMV's? Or was that to do with WinMX? I wonder if anything came of that...

There was. It failed. Miserably.
