Realistic romance anime
I just realized that most of my anime with romance are sci-fi/fantasy/mech/supernatural-type shows. Can anybody list some anime that have lots of scenes of realistic, modern-day romance? (That includes shows like Onegai Teacher, which has the supernatural element, but takes place mostly in a regular high school setting.)
High school dramas would do well for my purposes...
And it'd be best if the lovers could openly show their feelings toward one another.

I just finished watching His and Her Circumstance. I concur, it is good.
Kimagure Orange Road (KOR) is a classic.
Tenchi Muyo In Love; the scenes with Achika and Nobiyuki in high school are good.
Then there's always hentai anime. Many take place in high schools and they DEFINITELY openly show their feelings for each other.

Love Hina, if you want the typical modern fanboy perspective on what his warped mind thinks romance should be.Jasper-Isis wrote:I just realized that most of my anime with romance are sci-fi/fantasy/mech/supernatural-type shows. Other good examples of modern romance, look for FAKE or Gravitation. Maybe Ai no Kusabi. You get the additional benefit of dealing with controversial modern issues that really have no reason to be controversial in the first place, unless you believe in some magical sacredness destroying power of buttsex.
er.

More modern anime perspectives on anime include:
- Video Girl Ai, where the perfect woman comes out of a TV screen. You can't get more modern than that. David Byrne would approve.
- X, which is a modern-day, out-of-context application of the overused aphorism "I love you, so I'll kill you." Also includes hints of the above controversial issues.
- Chobits. Dumb but accomodating robot girlfriend meets dumb and horny human boyfriend. Modern romance, indeed!
- Urotsukidoji: Sex, rape, sexually liberated women. The stereotypical picture of Modern love. Woo.

While plain most of the time, it's good ol' fashioned cheesy predictable romance. And I love it for that.
