Overly obvious ideas
I'm the type of person who, if I have an idea for a video, I analyze it first to decide if it's too obvious. I'm not a fan of obviousness. But just because they're obvious doesn't make them bad ideas. Here's one example:
Slipknot - Vermillion to Elfen Lied.
The lyrical sync is sooooo obvious. TOO obvious. Plus I'm not a big Slipknot fan. But it's still a pretty good concept and all.
Any other creators get these ideas and then set them aside? Or perhaps make them anyway? (starts counting the Inuyasha Bring Me To Life videos....)

Obvious is in the eye of the beholder. For example, I thought making Mambo #5 to Eva with Gendo being the stud listing off his hoes was fairly obvious. Now after thinking about it (and deleting the 10 seconds of it I did 6 months) I gotta wonder WTF I was on at the time.
I do however still think Eva to Pencil Neck Geek is a rather obvious perfect match. Which probably goes to show I'm still on whatever it is that caused the first idea.

I've always had this burning urge to make an Utena video to "She Has a Girlfriend Now" by Reel Big Fish. It's been done, but uh... no comment. In my head it's terribly entertaining, but it's far down on the list of things I want to do.
Another one for Utena is "I Believe in Miracles." I'm not that sadistic. (If you've seen the show, you'll get it.)
The Gravitation OVA is basically Morrissey's "Sing Your Life", to the word, but I'm not about to do that because I hate the Gravitation OVA. (I do, however, like the song.)
For a while I kept a list of really bad ideas, but it's lost in the mists of multiple hard-drive crashes. I'm amused by them - you can picture them for five seconds, then let it go, which is fun.

How about Ah My Goddess to Genie in a Bottle? I just checked, There's one in existence here on the Org, but not available for download.
One of my earliest vids was something I thought was pretty obvious - "I Will Survive" to Gundam Wing - Considering a line from the last episode, which I included in the begining of my vid. ^_^

Making an amv, is rather like being the director of a Broadway show, where you have a million dancers and each of them only knows one step.

I suggested it over a year ago.Scintilla wrote:What? Someone FINALLY did it?!Corran wrote:Castle's in the Sky to Castle in the Sky
..probably the most obvious combo I can think of right now. I'm surprised it took so long before someone made a video to the two.
*had suggested that months ago... gets*
According to TaranT in my thread it was discussed even a year before that.

Oh, yeah - Mononoke + Dave Matthews Band's "Don't Drink the Water." That was one of my first ideas, and like many other people, I was even more susceptible to obvious/literal matches when I was new.
...actually, if it can be believed, nobody's done a video to that song.
It's really that obvious, I guess.
