General Footage Debate
From my perspective on types of footage aloud for us amv members to use in our vids etc., i see that:
Anime footage:
has to be japanese or anime-like, anything cartoon like with japanese aspects or footage founded by japanese people, some american cartoons are an acception, no porn, or hentai as they call it in japanese i think, nothing too obscenely mature, etc.
Live Action footage:
not sure, maybe just japanese stuff i gues
Video game footage:
We can only use japanese primarily, american and other countries are questionable.
CG footage:
Anything i guess as long as its japanese like and nothing obscene
Now i maybe off by some degree in comparison to others, but I'm curious, does american video game footage simply suck, can someone help me as to what types of live action footage can be used, can i make a vid composed of any types of cg footage as long as its nothing obscene, and also, what's the deal with us amv members not aloud to use video game footage that's not japanese based?
now that you've read this, you can draw swords and stab me, or you can be cool and show me the way through this mess of a debate i've started .

The Site FAQ wrote: What kind of videos can I put on the database?
The simple answer is ‘anime music videos that you have made’. If the source footage is entirely made up of non-anime sources, then it doesn't belong here. ‘Anime’ here is essentially defined as Japanese animation, including things like cutscenes from Final Fantasy games and so on. Non-Japanese animation and non-animated source are not allowed although we are lenient with anime-inspired original animated or drawn creations that the members have made.
Any videos that break any of the site rules (including but not limited to abuse of other members) are not allowed. Videos that contain pornographic footage of any kind cannot have a direct download link on the database. All such videos should be indirect and have an advisory warning before downloading the video. Further information about requirements can be read on the "Enter a New Video" page.
If you are not sure whether your video meets these criteria, do not enter the video. Instead ask in the forums (in Site Help), giving a rough account of what your video contains. The administration withhold the right to remove any videos deemed inappropriate for this site.
Life's short.

I wish there was a true definition on anime these days, like i was watchin the Spawn series, the animated one, looked japanese animated but it was american made if i recall, and you look at ties to anime and non-japanese things like the The Animatrix, and The Matrix movie, just simple ties, and once you see those mere connections in video-based franchises, you get to thinking that if The Animatrix is japanese based, why not be aloud to use The Matrix movie footage since both are so closely related? Then I saw The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury anime, american produced, yet animated by a japanese man, etc. Had ties to an american movie called The Chronicles of Riddick, and another, Pitch Black, and even an american game called The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, and it was only like a 30 minute anime, yet it had ties to 3 other major american-based things lol. And it makes me a bit confused, should I be able to use some of this American-based footage types in ties with this anime that was tied into it etc. or am I going to far?

If it was made in Japan, it's cool. If it wasn't, then it isn't. That's the dividing line that this site uses, and that should be good enough for you.Kilakion wrote:I'm too lazy to search for dozens and dozens of past threads discussing the subject of what is and isn't anime.
I personally wish they'd expand to include direct live-action adaptations of anime (this would not only cover movies like Casshern and Devilman which were produced in Japan, but movies like the live-action Evangelion and Akira which are being co-produced by American companies), but that's my only complaint about the rules.
Now, stop whining because you can't have your precious Halo 2 vids. I'm sure there are plenty of other websites that will let you upload, but as far as the 'Org is concerned if it ain't Japanese, it don't fly.

And you look at games like HALO 2 and ONI, both developed by an the same american company; Bungie, one had Anime in it, the other didn't, now the ties are even in the companies that produce the anime-based footage areas, it basically goes to show how close american footage and japanese is, why not tie them together?
