I think for me it varies. Sometimes I'll like a nice pop song with my AMV or I might go techno. It all depends on my mood. But all in all, I really look for anime rather than songs, I think.

I prefer action/drama/character profiles. Anime is rarely funny, as are the videos featuring it. And I don't look to AMVs to win girlfreinds or express my sexual frustration.

And a good horror AMV is always awesome. There is no vibe more intense than horror

I tend to prefer daram/character analyzis ones, but depending on my mood, some more action or some comedy will work too. Anyway, it'll depend more on the quality of the AMV rather than on its content; if one is really good, I honestly think that its theme doesn't matter that much (alright, except hardcore porn or stuff like that, this I, uhm, don't like).

I seem to have a different taste that most here, because I'm a sucker for AMV's that are cute and clever, that is humurous. I know there are others who like that kind too, because otherwise, IWIWAL wouldn't be so high on the favorites list. Fanservice can be a good laugh when it's made fun of in the right way. Best example of this is, of course, The Fanservice Video by Zarxrax.

I look for a good song before I look for animes I like. To me, the music and the editing skills of the creator is a lot more important than what anime is used (of course, the anime still has to go well with the song).

I usually cannot stand sentimental videos. In my opinion, the footage very rarely does anything to highten the experience of a sentimental song.

Rock 'n Roll, upbeat, original tunes, and comedy/cleverness is usually my preference. Still, the exceptions are often more interesting than the rule.

I like AMVs that are Comedy/Action/Deep/Serious either all at once, or any combination of the Four. I don't nececcarily like serious though, unless it's good.
