Has anyone ever just lost the will?
Hey people
I know I'm not the most active person on this site/forums, I do regularly visit and read though. I think I've only actually submitted one AMV to the site so far, this is side tracking anyway...
I sat down the other day to make an AMV to a much beloved song that I knew _exactly_ how I wanted everything to turn out in my head, I loaded up the ol' program and just sat there.... I couldn't be bothered, it all just seemed to too much work... don't get me wrong I still enjoy the whole AMV thing and would like to keep creating them but this just irked me a little bit :/
Has anyone ever just sat down and did not feel like continuing with what they were doing or just got bored of it? What helped you get over it? Yes I realise this could be the wrong section, but hey, I couldn't find anywhere else that kind've fitted the bill.

Watch a whole boatload of videos you enjoy, then watch a bunch that you don't. I tend to get motivated when I see a whole bunch of lame videos in a row.Honorable Goat wrote:What helped you get over it?

Loss of interest happened to me twice, when the videos just weren't coming together well enough to motivate me to keep working on them. Burn-out, however, happens more often. If I've been editing nonstop for a few months (especially right after con season), I usually have to step back and take a breather. Don't want to neglect the other hobbies, namely gaming. I've always got a little stack of games waiting for me at the end of con season.

There's been far too many a night when I just sat there blankly staring at the screen and felt quite unmotivated mainly when I end up with only adding 1 second more of editing for a week or more...
But there is this one time when I completely gave up on a project. I really wanted to make a Haibane Renmei video at one time but no music just seemed good enough. So I ended up with 3 songs and I thought to myself that the only way to get things started was to start 3 Haibane Renmei vids.... that was a mistake and a half... so in the end, today, I have not made one single Haibane Renmei video...
I'm actually in a slump at the moment... I have about 4 or 5 video projects I want to do but I feel no compulsion to get started... I have been watching buttloads of anime though... I guess I just can't multi-task.... and perhaps going for more than 1 video at a time is too much for me to keep doing...

This actually happended to me last year. I just got done with a video that was nearly 6 minutes long and then I went to work on another one. I got started on it but wasn't really feeling the video with my heart. Yes I could have edited the video but it wouldn't have been the same type of "man he put his spirit into this video" type thing. Anyway I did drop that project and still have it on my computer. I just have to get motivated again to do it. The best thing you can do is stand back for a little bit, watch some other amv's, and start on a project that you really want to do. And when you feel like going back to your other project, go ahead and do so. Good Luck man, hopefully you'll find a video out there that will motivate you.

I know how you feel. I haven't edited in a little over a month now and have no clue when I'll start again.
Well, when I last got into a slump, I did this: took a really cute, silly game - that was easy to rip, by the way, since it's PS1 (Chocobo's Dungeon 2) - picked an absurd, yet appropriate short song, and made a video that didn't have a whole heck of a lot of effort put into it. It was cute and it was fun, but I didn't push myself to do anything spectacular with it. I guess what I'm trying to say is that maybe you should just try something fun. Don't make a big deal of the final product for now and just try to get yourself back into the habit of editing again.
Also, I have to second what IcyCloud said. When in doubt, take time out for gaming. ^_^ Right now, I'm finishing up playing some fun modes in DMC3 and I've just started going old school with Final Fantasy VI - which, oddly, I hadn't played yet.
So, that's my tip, and a second to the other one. Hope it helps you get out of your slump!

Yeah same here... i'm busy synching my new vid and the i do about 2 seconds before i start yawning... then i close prem and load up GGX or something else...I'm actually in a slump at the moment...
The best way to usually get out of it [for me] - take a dip in a ice cold swimming pool, after that i drink some coke while watching some good AMV's. Sounds wierd? well maybe... it works.
