"Piracy Policies"... Not me!
Have you ever had a great idea for a clip to use in your AMV, but you don't have the source clip you need? Lots of us have had that problem, including myself. A lot of times the clip you need is in another AMV that you've downloaded and you think to yourself "This would fit great, if only I wouldn't get harped on for using this clip..."
Well, my friends, I say: LET THEM USE THE CLIP!
A lot of newbie AMV makers as well as vets don't have capture cards or any number of factors needed to get the clip from the DVD/VHS to your computer, and that's where the "Credit Where It's Due Policy" steps in.
My fellow AMV director Katara and I have set up a policy that is very forgiving to other AMV makers and would like to see more people adopt the policy for their own!
It's very simple: ASK! All you have to do is ASK the Original AMV Maker (OAMVM for short) to use the clip. If you can't get a hold of the OAMVM, that’s ok! Just add a credit to your vid or website (or both) that says it's not all yours.
If you're nice to them, and the OAMVM isn't mean, why would he/she turn you down?
We at More Better Studios feel that if more people adopted this policy, more good AMVs would be made with more cooperation between all AMV makers (both newbies and OGs), building a happier AMV makers community!
Thank you for your time! I'll be happy to respond to feedback/questions on my AIM screen name "Rob Kenchu" or by e-mail "Rob-Kenchu@morebetterstudios.com"

I don't see what this has to do with exchanging opinions but whatever .... anyway, with this system you might aswell ask a lot of AMV creators to borrow their scenes and compose a video completely of copied scenes = retarded. In my eyes just make your frickin video by yourself, where will you ever get by "borrowing"? If someone asked me I'd bluntley say "no"

Well, I'd probably say yes, but ask to see the orginal video before it was released. I really dont see how you couldn't find source footage though... hell, most amv's are encoded in a lossy format for distrubution to anything but con sumission, so you'd only be adding to the lossyness by re-encoding the footage. In addition, I don't want to sound like a total pirate, but there is not an anime yet that I've not been able to find online, with the exception of Venus Wars. Wait a minute, WHY THE HELL IS THIS THREAD IN VIDEO OPINION EXCHANGE?!?!

The way I look at this "policy" is with this saying, "What you put in is what you get out. Crap in Crap out!" Using footage from other creator videos is not a good idea because this is where the quality issue come into effect. The difference between lossy and lossless.. You want to work with lossless footage as much as you can. The only thing you don't want is to work with lossy footage. The outcome may look alright, but down the line it will hurt. And if there is a certain effect or transition you like in other videos but don't know what it is... Ask the person who created the AMV and see how they did it. (Ask politely though!)
A lot of us put quite a lot of money into equipement and programs. This is only a hobby outside of work or school. Sure you can download source footage from just about anywhere. But, if you really want to help out.. buy your source footage. Buy the anime, buy the music, etc... Even if you have to import the anime. Support what you do or love doing by buying the equipment, programs, and music/anime footage. I don't know what else to say other than going out and buying the stuff! 8)

Most creators will often say yes if you only want to borrow one scene from them if you can't get it so I say why not ask. sometimes though there are scenes they won't let you use like if I were Vlad I wouldn't want people borrowing scenes from Transcending Love due to teh amount of work put into it.

Buying a DVD-ROM is extremely cheap. If you already have the dvd's, and you can get a dvd-rom for under 50 bucks, you can rip footage. You'll have extremely good quality that way for not much money.
I wonder if Bogosort ever finished his video made completely out of other amv's footage. I'd like to see how it turns out if nothing else than to be proven wrong that I think videos with pre-compressed footage will always look like crap.
