Buying the DVD after seen an AMV?
Prologue:I have to admit that after watching Ding Dong by Sivis, I went out and bought the DVD of the anime.
Isn't this actually one of the hidden contributions an anime music video can do in it's legally un-certain position? Sometimes an anime music video can do a lot more than any official trailer out there could ever do, but since this is the internet, I bet this kind of reactioin doesn't happen too often here. Not to mention a lot of the popular titles are already owned when searching for specific music videos.
What I'd like to discuss is how often, or whom here have watched an anime music video and then decided to buy the DVD of the specific anime it was made with? A poll would indeed work nicely here, but I see no option for one.

I've purchased tons of dvd's based on AMV's. One off the top of my head that I know many other people have also bought based on an AMV is the Memories DVD.
But even before the DVD's come out I think AMV's spread a huge deal of awareness for new shows. One example: I wouldn't be surprised if tons of Naruto fans first learned of the show through AMV, and will probably buy dvd's when it comes out here.

I ended up getting Metal Fighter Miku after Flux's MM1 Megaman video and I hated it.Kusoyaro wrote:I used to constanstly have people yelling at me, saying "Damn you for making your Utena movie AMV! That video tricked me into buying the movie, which I ended up hating!" Well, in my defense, I loved the Utena movie

Like most everyone here, far more times than I can count. Though these days I'm far more likely to simply toss the series on my GreenCine queue and watch it via them than to buy it. These days it's rare for me to buy an anime DVD that a) I don't plan on using for an AMV already or b) is dirt cheap (see: ADV's last few sales).

I had to get Fruits Basket, Rahxephon, Madlax, Beyond the clouds [place promised], and the X series after watching amvs of them because they looked interesting and I also buy more anime so I can make more music videos but that doesn't mean I don't like watching them. I love watching anime still.
