Dvd Clips (idiot alert)

Yeah. My computer is a piece of junk, but I'm not sure if that's really the problem. How exactly do you use your dvd's to get the clips from them? And no, I'm not THAT stupid. My comp does have a dvd player dive dealie. (Though I am a bit stupid.. I don't even know how to describe something without using the word dealie) But anyways, can someone help me on that? Thanks
