Sick sensation of overused...?
Well guys. I would like to ask you an opinion about something I was thinking about in these last days. When I saw for the first time the CG Film Advent Children I was most likely like a child in a shop of candies. For over two years I was waiting that moment and then it suddenly came, after the first view I was crying for the excitement, and surely in my projects was clear that I would have used it for my future projects. And I was right, indeed my last work (Imaginary) took the most big amount of time ever for me in editing a video and I'm really proud of it, but I didn't realize something until now. I'm probably one of the unique "fools" that bought the original Jap DVD to get the best quality possible (and for collectionism, of course), so that this mean that the Film isn't even gone out of japan, that is already on the Most used Anime page. That.. Schocked me. Making a simple proportion, AC is became even more overused than DragonBall and everything else, since for example DB is 500episodes with a total amount of minutes that.. I can't count, AC in proporiton became something outrageous. Seeing this and downloading some casual videos.. I lose every desire to edit the film again, to be sincere I was already soddisfated when I completed Imaginary, but I used Advent Children only as an example, many times when it get to choose an anime for a video, seeing how many videos are out there and how much that particular anime is overused make me lose every type of imagination and determination, this is "Good" because force to choose non-overused animes (and it's what I'll do), but anyway I would like to ask to all of you if you ever felt the same, if you ever felt like "Sick" of editing when you had in front of you these kind of information and videos. Oh and sorry for the problematic topic.

To answer your question you need to first answer the old question of why you make AMVs?
If you make AMVs because you enjoy doing so, (and this is why I make AMVs), then go ahead and make an Advent Children AMV. You are obviously excited by the anime. You have the best source you can get. GO FOR IT!
Yeah, it’s overused. So what?
Make your AMV. Do the best you can with what you have to work with. If you like, watch some of the others first and see what works and what doesn’t.
I make AMVs because I like to do so. I enjoy making the AMV and then watching what I have created. I share my AMVs here in hopes that others will enjoy them and to get feedback that I can use to improve my editing.
I’ll be looking for your Advent Children AMV announcement.
Now you’ll have to excuse me while I get back to work on my latest, a Dragon Ball/Lincon Park AMV… j/k

Pray 4 peace! Not an AMV, something you can do to help!

Sure, I feel like that all the time. A lot of my favourite anime is on the "Overused" list. Usually if I make an AMV to something that's less overused it's because of peer pressure. Some of the ideas I get will work for underused anime, but some just call for something that has been used a lot. But I think that if you've got an awesome video overall, who cares if the anime is overused. I'd rather see an awesome AMV to an overused anime than a mediocre one to an anime that isn't overused. As for your "Imaginary" vid, Michele: it's the best AC vid (IMO) that I've seen, and I loved that movie, so what do I care if there's a whole ton of other bad AMVs to it?

Nah, If I love an anime I can make 100 videos about it without caring about its overuse-ness.
I begin to feel sick of an anime only when I run out of ideas for it.
Since Final Fantasy AC is only a movie, it's pretty difficult to find different themes for every video you make, that's probably why you have this feeling already.

It would be nice if creators expand their anime interests beyond the mainstream. I mean there are exceptional series that really go unnoticed from other viewers (this is one of the reasons why I make AMVs; to make the unnoticed at least noticeble). With watching a variety of anime series (mainstream, obscure, and such), you will increase a number of ideas and hopefully produce some better well-rounded videos.
If you're a real exceptional editor, you probably don't have to worry about it, but do consider trying it.

Says one who makes Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist videos.Michele wrote:the Film isn't even gone out of japan, that is already on the Most used Anime page.
Though, I agree, Advent Children is DISGUSTINGLY overused, even thought it is a pretty entertaining film. I say make what you want to make. If you get sick of seeing AMVs with it, then don't force yourself to make an AMV with it. If you come up with a really solid idea, then make the video.
That's the way I go about things, anyway.

I both agree and disagree--something being "overused" does make it get old quickly, but someone good enough can make it new again. I made one AC video, and I'll probably never make another, unlike FF8 which I made three of. Also who cares if an anime is used so much? If you want to use it and still be original, use a song no one else has used, or just make it in a completely different way. I don't remember who made it (and it's on my HD, too, so not remembering is double sad) but the FMA vid Anything/Greed Vs. Envy is amazing to me. One, because the sketches are original, and two because while I haven't searched specifically, I seriously doubt there's a large number of Burnadette Peters' songs here at the org.

count me as a fool too ^_^Michele wrote:I'm probably one of the unique "fools" that bought the original Jap DVD to get the best quality possible (and for collectionism, of course)
My brother stopped by in Japan recently and i got him to grab me an original Japanese copy.
But on all your other points i think everyone else has hit the spot. It shouldn't really matter whether the anime is overused or not, because you make the video it satisfy yourself. Besides someone such as you Michele would have no problems getting people to view your video no matter how "unoriginal" it might be
