What are the factors in how many people see ur amv

Post by burntresistor » Sun Jan 08, 2006 4:57 pm

What are the determining factors in how many people watch your video from announcements. I get jealous when some people are in the 100’s so far my newest is 50 or so. Is it the well know editor or if its from a con? Downloading it isn’t the same as liking it I would just be happen people saw mine.

This is a second topic what is with the 1-5 rating system after download it would be better if it was 1-10. Cause how do you know if a good 3.6 video is good or someone just when nuts on the score negitive or positive

1) Make a good video. Seriously. Don't underestimate this part.

2) Post it in the announcement forum

3) Do op exchanges

4) Certain anime, music, or combinations just won't get many hits. Not many people would be willing to sit through a Michael Bolton AMV. People are pretty sick of DBZ videos. Almost no one wants to see yet another linkin park/DBZ vid. Also if no one has ever heard of the anime you used then they probably won't download it. Learn to deal with this, you aren't going to change it.

5) Pimp like a madman. Appropriately though, don't just spam your video in any and every topic that comes up, it'll annoy people.

6) Become somewhat well known in some subsection of the org. If people recognize your name they're more likely to download. There are certain people who's videos I download ONLY because I talk to them in IRC. I know there's a group of journalists who are supportive of each other. Some forum regulars get hits just because they're forum regulars.

7) Have tits. Be barely legal. Use Naruto. Use stupid and cheap effects in every single video, ESPECIALLY the drama vids.

if theres lots of replies then i'll usually check out a video in the announcements, if its an IC or a MEP I'll usually check it out, and if its a name I recognize then I'll check out its announcement...

if it has a catchy title I'll also probably check out its announcement...

if you want people to download your video you gotta have something in it that makes it worth while, videos are mostly shared here on word of mouth...

I'll find a video i think is good and I'll post it in the journal section, and I check out other people's recomendations....

or I'll send it to my friends on AIM if I think that they may be interested...

if you wanna get more downloads then you gotta make something that other people will want to share as well..

Yup, definitely conventions help... I've been surprised before with people putting up opinions to videos I've made even before the video itself was available for download. Being an AMV coordinator in 2005, I've found so many people coming up to me later in the screenings asking, "can we have copies of those videos?" or "what anime was that?" or "where can I find that video?"

To be honest, the song and the anime are the largest influencial factors in how many people download it... For instance, using an 80s song will get you less attendtion or an anime very few have heard about...

This is not to say that that one should focus on popular aniem and music, just more of a statistic if you look at hits and downloads.

Number 1 factor (IMO) would have to be who you are of course. If your name is Castor Troy, Tyler_yj, Sierra Lorna, or Fluxmeister i don't think you're gonna have that much trouble getting some views.

I find myself looking more for animes ive seen.. but theres days where I just trie something new...

But I got to say a r3eally big factor would be sig banners.. they always seem to catch my attention, esp. if there really cool looking! even though it has no revelance.. im a short man with a short attention span so it gets my vote :P.. It also helps if you offer free ops and just suggest an op back, because if someones willing to give you a free op alot of the time I return the favour :)
