What is the average amount of time to make an amv?
I hear people talk about it taking them 2 weeks to make amv's. Its kinda werid cause i compare my videos to those people and it only takes me like 4 hours and i think mine are just as good or better.

if you take, preplaning, ripping, exporting and encoding into account. I think it's impossible to make a good amv in 4 hours.
Best case, lets assume you know your anime really well and it's a movie or really short series and you know exactly what you want I suppose the editing can be done that quickly.
But still, people will spend weeks/months/years getting their AMV's to a point where they are happy with them.
It really depends on the creator.

Sure, it really depends on the creator.
But do a video in 4 hours is impossible, in my opinion. My first videos at least took one day. But I'm talking about my FIRST ones. Now I usually have a work time that goes from one month to three. The minimum can be a week, but it's a lot of time that I don't get really far in that amount of time.
I would really like for example to start a project, if only my computer would like to work.

My more involved projects have taken anywhere from 80-100 hours of work. Truthfully, I'd rather use that time to put out one video that I'm truly happy with than four quick but mediocre videos. Quality over quantity, as it were.
That's just my pace. Of course, there are some who can do some outstanding work very quickly (I'm looking at you, Hsien ). Still, that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

IRON CHEF!
Anyway, amvwizard, it really depends on the creator, every one has his time. It really depends also from the concpet you have, the objective you have. But generally, as Mikestrife said, people generally spend weeks/months/years for an Amv.
This don't means you are wrong if you end yours in four, ten, or two hours, don't misunderstand our answers. Every creator has his times, but the results usually depends from the time/effort you put in the video.

I've made videos that took weeks/months, and they have been beautiful pieces of flashing strobbing eye candy. Then I've spent a few hours on a video, and despite simplicity, I've won awards with such. I've actually done better with my 'simple' videos then my 'non-simple' videos. It depends on the concept. What are you trying to do? You put the hours in that are required for that concept. If you put in less hours then is required, you'll have a video that may not be as good as you would have liked, but still has most of the concept you wanted. If you put more hours into the video then the concept requires...your a perfectionest, or have over complicated the video.
When making my 'list' of video ideas, I actually rate them Light / Medium / Hard. Based on how much time I think the idea will take. Some of my ideas I think will be Hard and turn out to be a Medium time video. While some of my 'medium' ideas turn out to be 'hard'. Light = 2-10 hours. Medium = 40 hours. hard = 80+ hours.
Current video, I estimated as Medium/Hard so about 60 hours. It's now in the high end of the 'Hard'. How many hours... I don't know, but then I don't keep track.
Some people are lucky that they can spend large chunks of time on a video, while I can spend only an hour or two at a time. So I'm having to spend alot of time getting back into the flow of the video each time I work on it. So there are lots of factors towards how much time goes into a video.
