You're downloading the wrong videos.
But seriously, the issue of subs in AMVs was discussed a little while ago here.

Some of my favorite editors refuse to bother with removing subs. They don't get the fanbase they deserve because of this.
Subs are easy to remove - you can crop them right off in Virtualdub. Since it's so easy to get rid of them, it's considered laziness to leave them in. People flame vids with subs all over them because they're ugly and distracting and so easy to get rid of with just a few minutes extra effort.
There are a lot of sub-filled vids here because there are a lot of lazy editors here. If you're looking for an excuse to leave subs in, you won't find any excuse that fits better than pure laziness.

1. thing is most of the people here watch subtitled anime (from what i can gather since alot of them use subtitled anime for their videos) most of us are self trained to read those subs, therefore if you try to take the fight of "just ignore them" thats like telling us to stop a habit that we have built up over possibly years, its not going to happen instantly...
2. if you leave subs in there are people who will point out that annoiance in QC at the very least. I know if I see a decent video with subs in it I will say something about it in qc...
Subs can only lead to destruction, that is unless they are ment to be there or done on purpose

I personally watch most of my anime in subtilted form, so videos with subtitles are pretty distracting since I've been trained to watch for subs. Also, if you are a heavy fansub watcher, you have no choice but to watch anime subbed so I think you would end up having subs in videos annoy you if they are just left in there for no reason except laziness or plain ignorance.
Now, subs that are there for a purpose, can help with the video, but even then they can be a distraction to a video if there are many things going on in the video at once. Information overload, if you catch my drift.
