Why do people prefer time to the actual vid?

Post by Cornwiggle » Mon May 29, 2006 8:11 pm

This is annoying.

There are some people who seem to only care about how long it took you to make a vid, rather than the actual video itself. To me, I think that if you can make a cool video in a short amount of time, more power to you.

Of course, I'm not into making my videos whored out with effects like some. And with those videos it DOES take months, but it's my personal preference that videos don't need 9000000 million effects to be good.

The point is, if someone made a video in one day, but decided to wait 5 months before uploading it, and then said they made it in 5 months, and it was well received by everyone, that still doesn't change the fact it was made in one day.

I think that focusing purely on how long it took to make it, is a stupid way of thinking. If the video's good, then it shouldn't matter. Focusing on the time, is focusing on the wrong thing.

How does everyone else feel?

I think as long as the video its self is good then it doesnt matter how long it should take. I my self have made vids within a short period of time and they turned out great. I also think that some times when vids are made too fast people wont give them a chance.

those "people" dont make sense. Why are they judging a vid soley on its creation time?

I can understand only wanting to download and view vids that a creator has spent a good amount of time on, but judging a vid after you've watched it soley on how long it took to make sounds a bit farfetched.

If however they're using the time thing to comment on a lack of originality or effort the point becomes very valid.

I've actually seen this problem a lot, and it's really annoying. More than a few times, my videos have been criticized as being "bad" simply because I happen to make a new one every month.

But it is nice to see someone else with the same view of effects that I have :-P

I'm batting .500 on this one. I do state how long it took me to make my videos. But I don't do it in order to get people to think this video is good because it took 14 hours to make. Personally, I think I could have spent MUCH more time to make many of mine better. But I don't expect more respect for taking that long. If the video suckes, then it would be seen as time wasted and I hate that feeling.

I do it just to have a solid place to chronicle my time. I guess its out of habit since I am a stickler for knowing where and how I spend my free time since I have so little of it. If its about effort, then it fails for me since no one downloads my best vids anyway.

I don't think majority rules on this one. Typically the amvs that ppl spend time (and effort) on are better than the ones that don't get more than the minimum. Established creators who know what they're doing can make a video quicker, but most videos fall under this rule. And those that beleive this don't have time to watch every video to prove them wrong, they're makeing their own amvs -_-.

i take overly long breaks between videos...
most of mine are done "within a week"

as in im usually doing nothing else BUT editing and capturing and whatnot for a week ><

i dont get many problems with people telling me i didnt spend enough time, and the ones who have told me that, were probably right... in some cases i got lazy or just fed up with working on something so i called it done...

but unlike *most* people, AMV and video editing is my main hobby/job/anything to do...

most people have work, or school or other things to occupy their time...

I dont.. and my cat isnt much of a conversationalist...

What would be a more interesting topic is if there is a connection between bad videos, and creators who make a video in a week.

I think more people are listing the length of the ordeal of the video rather than the actual time spent making it. Let's say you got the idea for a video about 5 months ago and only edited it about 5 hours a day (taking a few breaks here and there), then you list that took you 5 months to finish.

My RE4 Die another day video only took 10 days to make. :P
