Can it be done?
I was wondering lately if a feat such as topping the number one vidoe, "Euphoria", could ever be done. To me the chances of even making one of the top 100 videos seems unfathomable at this point. Sure, I'm new to making AMV's but I've seen the quality put out by others and I have to say, it seems impossible.
Take a look at the "Euphoria" video. It seems to capture the very emotion of the music and the digital effects are over the top. everything is in synch and it still follows the basic rules of editing. It's practically AMV perfection.
The problem I have is my mind cannot go beyond a simple concept. That concept is you cannot make a good video in this day and age without getting dangerously close to someone else's design. A while back I was thinking of doing my own video to thousand Foot Krutch's "Phenomenon" until I saw the other video and thought "I'm never going to able ot top this." I was even going ot use Bleach but of course, I'd loose points for originality, thus lowering the quality and chances of a high rnaking on my video.
It just seems to me like the best are the best and it's been written in stone.
So to make a video wiht any cahnces of reaching the charts, I ask you this:
What does it take? Does it lie in the originality of the video? Mayeb the digital effects or music synch? Does it have anything to do with talent or is it just sheer determination and luck that make a great video?
I just wonder about these things sometimes and it almost destroys my confidence. I've only produced one video and already I'm unsure if I want to keep trying.

Anything is possible. It might be extremely difficult to do, but anything is possible. To my knowledge, Kewp is human, which means that while Euphoria might set the standard for "perfection", because it was human made, there's always room for improvement. I know I have trouble fathoming anything more awesome, but once that vid comes that outdoes Euphoria, we will know it, and it will be the new standard. Then we will sit back and wonder if anything could possibly be better. Does it take determination or talent? I'd say both. You need the talent to make something good. Great even. But it takes determination to go from good/great to awesome. Heck, even if you had mediocre talent but you had the determination to sit down and not stop until you had learned everything you needed to learn and achieved something that truly fabulous, you could still do it. Yeah, I want to be him when I grow up
, but I lack the determination, so I will never be that good. But one can always dream.

When you talk about charts, you're bringing BUSINESS into art. It doesn't involve money, but it's the same idea when you talk about reaching the maximum number of people with the most impact. Like any successful business campaign, it requires imagery and motifs people can relate to. Because of that, it's also easy to fall prey to cookie cutter shit.
I've had around 3 - 5 vids on the charts, and whether they're still there, I'm not sure. It wasn't my intent to make stuff that people could relate to. Rather, I enjoy making stuff that they don't relate to.
I am an advocate of using FX to a high degree, because I think it's more interesting to watch how they play out when used appropriately. What pisses a lot of people off about them, including me, is how copycats follow in the wake of something that appeals to a lot of people.
Originality should be logically be the largest factor [which I would say it is along with recognizability] in determining potential success.
And now I'll tell you that this is all bullshit, you're wasting everyone's time, you're a dumbass suit for bringing this up, and I hope you choke on your own ego.

Yeah, to sum up what requiett said... Pimp your video... sometimes the campaign after (and even before) its release can get you the necessary attention to turn your crap into something people will ignore that fact of it being crap...
Serious note though... originality... that really kicks in the point of all the hardwork. It's hard, yes. But just sit somewhere quiet (or loud, depending on your forte) and wait. A good idea will more likely come to you when you least expect it.

I watched this video and digitally speaking I have to say its a ten but to me that is all it is a show off of digital effects, although very well done. It depends on what you like to, I am more into stories, and do not care as much about digital effects, but if they are impressive ones I will score as such, I would much rather see a good story line though, but I still have to say it was definately a good use of digital effects.
I would not compare myself to others, everyone has different taste, and sometimes it is just popularity, and that is anywhere you go, so do what you enjoy, make sure your heart and soul is in it, because in the end, the only person who needs to be happy with it is you

I was simply asking aquestion. If you don't have the balls to keep yourself from falmming me, then don't post. If you felt like I was wasting your time, then you shouldn't have posted.
