Compliments through criticism?

Post by Jasta85 » Fri Mar 09, 2007 11:06 am

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I didnt even think about it till today, i had a person check out my amv "The Fillers are Over" and they said they really liked it except they didnt like the fact that i stuck the intro to Naruto Shippuuden at the end as it felt like i was cheating a bit. I cracked up and told them it wasnt the intro at all and just one i had made myself, which definitly changed their opinion of it.

I'm actually hoping to invoke having a lynch mob come after me for my next amv as it's going to defile one of my favorite series (and a lot of other people's favorite series) and the bigger the reaction it creates the happier i'll be.

But anyway, any wierd things like this happen to other people, where someone criticises your work but you end up taking it as a compliment in a round about way.

Not exactly though. I once got a review on my first video years after I made it that told me to "use either downloaded footage or DVD footage, but not both." I laughed... I didn't use downloaded footage. I used VHS tapes when only the first two discs were out in the US.

One of my videos was praised as having awesome audio, that "this must be have come from a CD" sort of deal. I found the music that I used for that video in Kazaa as a .wma file. But it's pretty hollow thing seeing as how you gotta be doing something wrong to start with to mess up your audio.

no, it was actually not you scott, i was showing it to my college's anime club during one of their meetings and one of the members came up to me afterwards and asked, i did get that feeling a little bit when you made your op, but i guess it was a bit of a coincidence, i probably just misunderstood what you said after another person had already commented on it

people have told me that my "in the glass" video was disconnecting or it didnt quite fit to the song... lol but i wasnt going for 100% emotional connection so it works XD i kinda like that people feel that there is some odd disconnection from the song, as the series isnt some kind of weird sappy romance, and the song is often used as a sappy romance song...

There are certain videos I've done that if I didn't get some criticism for it I'd consider it a failure. Pretty much any of the 'dedicated to ...' videos has gotten at least one bad comment from someone who didn't think I should be joking about 9/11, Katrina, Sammy, or my wife.

I get a laugh every time someone is "disappointed" with one of my RPBP videos. It literally accomplishes my key purpose; see current sig quote for further info
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I look at all criticism as a potential learning experience. Despite whether people can best you at what you do or not, they'll still have their opinion...and you can pay attention to it and sometimes (rarely) glean something useful off it.

Aside from "you suck." comments.
