No you don't use a video capture card to download anime. It helps getting footage from your dvds on to the computer though. That's if you don't want to worry about ripping footage instead or if you want to capture your self playing a video game or some sort.

Yes. Not only will you need a video capture card, you'll also need a video-dex, preferably a model by Oak Labortories. You'll want to make sure you've installed all 151 capture drivers, including the Missing Number and Metapod drivers.

A video capture card is a device which lets you take outputs from like a VCR or anything that is coming out composite or s-video and record it on to your computer, usually through a USB port if its external like this one

It can also come as a PCI card like this one

I have an older dazzle video capture card myself but even the new ones are pretty much the same. I used it when all I had were VHS tapes of my Anime, but if you have a DVD of your anime then use a DVD-rom drive to rip the footage. As the guide mentions

"The way Digital Video editing has been done in the past was to take a video capture card, hook up your VCR or LD player to it, and then capture clips to your hard drive. This is still a very viable method (and indeed the only good option open to you if you don't have DVDs)."

I hope that answers your question. :D [/url]
