Question about personal view of Star Averages

Post by Shadowfox85 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 12:57 am

So anyways I just wanted to know about star scales about what are the ranges that are considered to be "bad", "ok", "good" and "very good", like which range draws the line for most ppl?

Reason I'm asking is because I made an amv "K.I.B. - Knights in Black", which I thought would get great reviews and scores. While it has great opinion scores, it has a star scale avg. of 3.63 with 43 votes. What would this be considered? Good? Great? Okay? Is 3.63 a respectable average? I just want to know where this vid. stands compared to others, such as is 3.63 regular or high than regular amvs you see (like also if 4.0 averages are rare or sorta rate, i only have two vids that have an average that high)

Thanks ppl for reading this

i don't even think anyone cares about star averages, honestly
plus realize that unless your video blows the roof off of most of the stuff here, it's not going to get above a 4 star average

Star ratings mean different things depending on how many votes I've gotten.

In fact, I don't even start paying attention to the star score until the amv it's for has gained at least 100 votes. With that said, here's how I view the star scale.

3.00 and under=bad

3.01-4.00=ok/solid

4.01 and over=good

For me to consider an amv that I made to be "very good", it'd have to have gained over 1000 votes and maintained a star score average of over 4.01 for over a year for me to be somewhat convinced.

Despite what I said though, don't let star score averages get to you too much since most people are probably just going to tell you how useless they are anyways. If you really want to know just how good your amv was, opinions are what you need. Entering a few amv contests might not hurt either.

If a vid starts out with a 3.0 to 3.4 I figure it's an okay one and it'll settle around 3.6 to 3.8 by the time it has a few hundred stars.

If a vid starts out with a 3.5 to 4.0, I figure it's a good one and it'll settle around 3.6 to 3.9 by the time it has a few hundred stars.

If a vid starts out with a 4.0 or higher, it's popular - it'll probably settle between 3.9 and 4.02 after a few hundred stars.

3.0 = average/needs improvement
3.5 = okay/not bad
3.9 = good
4.0+ = popular

In my experience, the 4.0's tend to drop to 3.9 and 3.8 if you wait long enough.

I've never made a "great" video. Those are the ones that stay in the 4.2+ range indefinitely. I only have one video below a 3.0 and with all my newb vids that tells me you have to do something really wrong to get in the 2s after a few hundred stars...

I think a lot of them are far too high in general. I stopped downloading random videos a while ago, but when i did, my average given was around a 2.3. We have ratings below 3 - if a vid deserves it, it gets it. As for what's "good" - I won't grab anything under a 3.8 unless it's recommended to me by someone or someone asks me to download it if that tells you anything.

This is quite true, especially if you say things that piss people off enough on the forums - you can tell when your entire catalog drops a few percentage points in a day that something's up.

43 votes in not enough to judge anything ..... You need at least 150+ to get a good gage .....

Sweet, thanks alot ppl for your opinions and views. I guess I'll just wait till at least its over 100 or so, but ya i was hoping this amv would get a higher avg (its just weird, the star average is 3.63, yet in opinions, its an 8.67. Oh well, I've been seeing it fighting to get higher to 4.0 , but theres always someone pulling it back down with a 3. Anyways thanks again ppl!

opinion rating 1-10
star rating 1-5

plus you have to remember that people HAVE to give star ratings they dont HAVE to give opinions

Are you serious? Wow, that's REALLY immature and stupid.

I don't care how bad someone pissed me off, I would never downrate their video just out of spite. Hate the person, don't hate their creation, period.
