Have we been trained to only like certain elements of anime&
Hmm, this just came into mind when I was reading through the "Have AMVs ruined anime?" thread.
I noticed (as many of you probably already have too) that if getting say, a Chrno Crusade AMV, you will find many key scenes repeated throughout the variety of AMVs.
Now obviously, you can't have hundreds of AMVs using footage that no one has used, but it always seems to be a few scenes that come up, no matter what kind of AMV it is.
A few examples of scenes I've seen countless times would be the dynamic motion cam for Air, when it swings around Misuzu. Also the motion cam in "He Is My Master"
Obviously, these scenes are selected because they have the motion added, and many times are better quality (since they are included in the intro), but what I want to know is, would you rather watch a AMV that doesn't use conventional footage, even at the cost of that footage being worse?
Also, I want to know when is the point where you just say "enough, that's the last time I ever want to see that scene used in an AMV" because, I'm pretty sure everyone's seen Hare Hare Yukai more times that they would have liked, and Naruto has pretty much been turned into an AMV whore.

Those scenes were designed to grab your attention by the animators so naturally, an AMV editor will use them for the dramatic effect/dynamic appeal.
That being said, I appreciate the AMVs that use the less popular scenes and either focus on them or make the scenes fit the video via editing or effects.
But like I said about CrackTheSky's Washed by the Sun in his announcement thread, if a scene is appropriate, even if it's overused, use it. There are times where an AMV should be edited as if its the first to use the source. It shouldn't be hobbled by the fact that others have used it in the same manner. Unique isn't always better.

Exactly. While that is true though, do you think it would be better to just leave the whole anime alone if it has been torn apart so much (such as in the case of Naruto)Willen wrote:Unique isn't always better.
I mean, if a scene is overused, but you need it for your concept, then I'm pretty sure the concept itself would be overused too.
In all honesty I don't really have a strong opinion either way on this issue, which is why I'm asking here.

It seems this has alot in comman with the Originality post, if you do something new with an anime, I guess the kind of clips, the mood your aiming for would lead you to different scenes? In a short running show or movie, there would only be, for exsample, so many action scenes, limiting choice.
Or thus is my humble opintion
"Its 16kg, 39cm and holds 6+1 13mm rounds, each shell is made from a baptized linkin park album and the casings are pure Konoha head-bands. No freak fanboy could eat these and come back for more"

meh - i think it all boils down to execution. If B looks better and is timed better than A and uses the exact same scenes in places, B is still better than A even if B came out a long time after A did.

All depends on the scenes before it. Like any Naruto video, we watch sasuke getting beaten up by haku then naruto going nuts, yet 3 videos on the top 10 use that same scene if not more. As long as (i find) the scenes before it flow the repeatitive scenes dont bother me.
Another good example is how many times can you watch Goku/Vegeta fighting? its not a dbz video until someone goes supersayain!? yet I can still watch all of them withought really noticing the same scene, unless there ALL really bad, then I notice alot quicker
