Smart and ditzy anime girls

So, here's the deal. I'm looking for suggestions for any anime that have really strong, smart, independent girls as well as anime with the classic, cliche, ditzy anime girl. The more painstakingly stupid, the better - but not so far that it's purposely comedic. For example, Excel from Excel Saga would be a poor choice for "ditzy girl." She's built that way on purpose to be funny. I'm thinking more along the lines of Mikuru Asahina, from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, who is basically every anime girl cliche wrapped into one. Girls like her.

So, if you guys can help out, here's what I'd ideally like:
- name of anime
- name of girl
- episode number where she demonstrates her personality the best

I don't need to know which type of personality she is. If it's not obvious from the episode, then it's not going to work for me. And please, only try to throw out suggestions if you can point to a specific episode. I don't want to scrub through an entire series just to find a minute or two of really good footage of a girl.

The best example of a strong, smart, independent anime girl I can think of would be Kino from Kino's Journey. Unfortunately, her sex is purposely ambiguous in terms of animation, so that might not be the best choice. If you do choose to go for it, any episode would probably work, but episodes 6 and 7 would be best.

Asuka from Evangelion is a pretty obvious choice for strong/smart/independent as well. Episode 8 would probably be a good choice for this, and then of course there's the movie, End of Evangelion, which work work as well.

Depending on what you want to do with the footage, Haruko from FLCL could work for strong/smart/independent as well. I know you're familiar with the series, so I don't think I need to give any episodes, but in case it's been a while for you I'd say that you could probably see this best in episode 5.

Check out IGPX's Liz Ricarro. I'm pretty sure in the first episode (could be the second), she does some tai chi and knocks the main character to the fucking ground.

It's also in really pretty CG, to boot.

I've always had the deepest respect for Abelia from Now and Then Here and There, one of my most favorite charachters ever. Without her, that show would have been terrible, and that's saying alot on how much of an AWESOME show NATHAT is ;p.

Also Orihime Inoue from Bleach is one of those girls who your not sure if she couldn't figure out how to flunk the sats. Kinda' like that girl in Fruits Basket (seriously, how can I forget the main character's name??

Along the lines of Abelia, you can take any of the military girls in Last Exile.

Strong - Nanoha and Fate from Nanoha, Nanoha A and Nanoha StrikerS, they are 10 year old lolis in Nanoha A but it is the best series of the 3 though if you want them when they are 20 years old and have boobs then go with StrikerS

actually there's a few in that list that -idunno- kinda' flip-flops around but always ends up on the smart/ strong end (more strong than smart...). That, in itself, is a cliche. That's probly why they're all in cliche-land .
