Can a Old School kid...play with the New school kids...?

Post by AkibaTohno » Wed Oct 22, 2008 5:43 pm

Hello everyone Akiba making my first post...please bare with me:

I was a huge fan of AMVs back in High school...(about 2002) I made about 4 videos...and i thought they were the best videos every...I was using...very basic...video editing tools too. However, after High school...i stop making videos because i was focusing on trying to become designer, but that failed big time...anyway long story short...I want to make AMVs again...I can still feel the hot burning spirit of video editing within me...I can still imagine awesome AMVs while driving home from work and listening to the radio...but i just took a look at some of the most recent made AMVs...and you can imagine i feel like shit...because those videos look INSANE!!!! some of them look like a whole team of pro editors worked for months on them...

Is my time lost forever...should i even try making videos...when people are just this good...and the standers are raised so high.. i feel that i can't even compare...is there hope for me and my imagination?

Do you enjoy it?

If you answered "yes", then make videos. Don't worry about what other people do or what other people think. Make videos for you.

do what you want!

"I think people have had too much to think and ought to flex their magic muscles. It takes awhile to get oriented to what I do, but people seem to be able to hear it if they give it a chance. I'd never just want to do what everybody else did. I'd be contributing to the sameness of everything." - Captain Beefheart.

the issue isn't really what other people think...its what i think about my art...it almost feels like i can never reach the same artistic high of some of these videos....I have really great ideas...that i am sure are possible to do in this day and age...but its figuring out how to start up again...that can really be confusing with all the new hardware and software out there....I have no idea were to begin....

To some of us, 2002 is new school.
