How do you storyboad\plan your amvs?
I've been curious, I know that for myself, I either keep a few specific points in my mind, or just improvise after I start. The only thing I know being what type of amv I wish make. I would expect this, or some variation thereof is common for quite a lot of people. What I'm more interested in is those of you who make extensively pre-conceptualized amvs, with immaculate attention to detail. I can only assume these have at the very least phrase by phrase planning. Do you make a traditional storyboard? Do you have a written system? Do you store it all in your massive brain? Come and tell.
Of course, I'd also like everybody to share their methods. Even if the extent of your planning is anime+song, feel free to pipe in.

Yeah, I tend to improvise, but keep certain points in my mind... I'll find clips that match the part of the song I'm working with while I'm editing. If I find a clip that matches more, I'll change it.

I'll go through the source looking for clips that would work, I right them down.
I don't plan it out 100% most of it is improvised. I just try to make it easier to find stuff that I'd like to use.

Re: How do you storyboad\plan your amvs?
I do not usually plan on what I'm going to do in an AMV. I have noticed that I did just the same when I wrote stories for the school, the start, and the end, but the middle . I believe the most important thing is to know how to start it and how to end it. Though, it's way much better to plan at least something, because else you'll either don't know what to do in some point, or your video (just like it can happen with a written story) will turn pointless.

yeah most of us are probly doing it wrong and improvising lol. I know that's what I do . But I keep thinking I should plot it out some day that way I'd stay in one idea (not that I tend to flounder anyway... by this point), but I'm just too lazy.

Well I improvise it. But I go through it countless times and changing things. It feels like the first beta is planning, and the next beta is the real beta.

yeah you can do it that way and just say the first beta is like your storyboard. That's how I usually do it... but as far as writing anything down I don't do that lol. Cuz out of like 30 projects the final is rarely very different from the betas at all. so yeah after the first beta it's 'storyboarded' I can agree with that!

I'm talking more about what happens before you even rip the source. I for one can't keep a detailed plan in mind for the amount of time it takes to rip.
Anyway, I guess I was right about that particular method being very common.

Re: How do you storyboad\plan your amvs?
I usually have 1 part of the song that I know exactly what I want to put there (from whatever series I use. On a related note, I pick the anime after I pick the song).
From that, I have a rough idea of what I want the story to be. Then rip, clip, edit some, clip some more, edit more, etc... until finished
