Average age on the org.... does it matter?
I know there was a topic 'am I too old for the org?' just a few weeks back, but that turned into 'how old is too old?' which is kinda' the same, but not. See my thought stems from me thinking (as all thoughts do...) that I'm nearly 30 and still hanging around '13 year olds' . Now while the org is not the toob, I doubt the demographic is mainly tweens and preteens but the thought still pervades. Am I or rather CAN I outgrow the org?
So you gotta figure, while the org was MADE for 13 yr olds (or rather, with such an atmosphere [with such harsh criticism at times] doesn't really attract those under 15 anyway... in most cases) most of us, speaking of just the forum participants as those are really the only ones I 'hang' with, have been here for 3, 4, 5+ years! I'd say the minimum age is probably 16-17 with most (who started at 15-17) are approaching if not in their 20's now! I'd be willing to guess the average age around here is probably like 25 believe it or not. With the amount of editors from the early boom (2003's and so on) sticking around shouldn't we say the average age around here grows with the site itself? So I'm not too old I can stay ^_^ I guess your just stuck with me xD.

The most importance aspect of the internet is anonymity. To not bother with whether the person you're talking to is young\old, fat\thin ect. If you find conversation stimulating, then it doesn't really matter how old a person is. That, plus I'm against developmental absolutism anyway.
Oh, and I think most of the forum going population is college age anyway.

I guess most of us get here when they're 14-15 and keep hanging around.

If people around 13-17 years come here around more often than older people is because if they don't like anime and editing at that age, chances that they might do so in the future are way much lower. And if they really get into it, they might explore the web and find this page, the same way I guess most of us are here right now.
I believe there should be no problem talking about ages, after all, most of the people here behave in a correct way and is intelligent enough, it shouldn't really care.

Average age on the org.... does it matter?
Got here at 14, and I turn 16 this month.
Took me a year to start editing.

The real point of interest is that on the org, as age goes down, maturity goes up.godix wrote:I admit it, I laughed.Pankyy wrote:most of the people here behave in a correct way and is intelligent enough
Or maybe it's just that cynicism goes down...

There's also a disparity between general users and the 'inner circle', the people that hang out in IRC, visit cons as part of the group, etc. That group is generally older, maybe by as much as 10 years on average compared to the .org's general population.
I don't think the site was made for 13 year olds. It certainly wasn't made by them, either. I think this hobby is far less age-discriminant than some people may assume.
