Pennywise's lyrics and musical style are very very punk, no matter who wants to admit it or not, But you could also get technical and classify them as pop-punk, which they very well may be. But I would classify Rancid as punk music. OR if you'd like, i can come up with other shitty examples, lets travel back in time, to the time of the Ramones, and The Clash, two god aful bands, that are ....... (as i am saying this a clash song just started playing on my play list, my sister (cheesebefriend, or something) bought a clash cd, and on impulse i upload any music that enters the house to the old computer, time to change the song) Anyway, those are two god-aful bands that are known for starting punk music (thank god they did, because i have no idea where we would be without punk RAWK)
Also, does Millencolin count? what about OLD OLD OLD AFI, before everyone thought they were a new band? Im going to write a couple punk songs maybe, to show you guys how fucking easy it is to say fuck the government, and spell things incorrectly.

I'm with Mr. Titus on the "fuck the government" punk stuff. Anyone can do it, and it's become almost cliche. Yes, Mr. Snotty Punk Singer, we get that you have angst over the government and your almost certain middle-class upbringing. Now do something about it.
As for Rancid and Pennywise, from what I've heard, they sound like typical punk (although Pennywise less so) to me. Perhaps not pure punk, but then again, "purists" seem to listen to the most boring "pure" music in their quest to be snobby.
Just my couple of cents.
