You don't know for a fact that she's lieing, but there is also no way to prove that it's true either. There are countries out there where the women have absolutely no say in anything and if they're seen on the street without their "man" with them the cops will arrest them. As hard as it is to believe places like that do still exist in the world.

Very true. And there are real *American* families that control the females the same way in Ohio. Check the police reports on criminals arrested for violence toward their wives and daughters - there are more accounts of this sort of control on the part of fathers and 'boyfriends' brought into the fold than most people realize.

Whether it's true in this case or not doesn't make much difference to me - if she has access to the internet she knows the behavior is not acceptible, there *are* places that will help you (yes, even if you're in another country - we go to war over things like this). If she doesn't want to fight, I don't want to hear about how bad it is. The way I see it, if you know people will help and you put up with it anyway, it's none of my concern.

But then, I'm jaded when it comes to that - you want help, help yourself first - then you can cry to me about how bad it is. And I'll direct you to international helplines that can actually *do* something about the situation.
