Wow, it's almost as if there wasn't one guy who won 7 Pro Tour events at $30,000 prize money a time. Total luck-based gameklinky wrote:Really, Magic and other card games, whats' teh deal?
Is skill really involved? I guess there could be skill involved what with knowing the most effective way to use your cards. But I doubt even the best player could beat someone who uses the bruteforce tatic of dumping their life savings into getting rare cards.
That's why I never got into it really with my friend. I didn't have any money for it and we'd split his deck, only problem is he wanted all the good cards And there were so few anyways in his deck. It just seems unfair.
Wait wait, maybe there are classes for how much money you spent/skill. That may make sense
oooh
One of the very best decks around has no rares in it whatsoever (blue-green). Some commons (Wild Mongrel) are better than most rares. Once you are at the level where you can have access to all the cards, you can only go so far with the 'Good Stuff' deck before the plans fall apart. You need skill, innovation, understanding of the game and practise. If it was just a case of having the rares, then I could be World Champion 8) (I'm not, by the way).
And the 6th Edition rules were a blessing that allows the game to function and continue to work. Who really cares whether it says 'summon' or 'creature'? It's all the same. The game still plays very similarly, and now it's easier to resolve rules disputes.
EC, I love those humourous cards. Being a Magic geek helps.
A forum duel wouldn't work because of the timing rules. We could be here for hours. If anyone has Apprentice (from www.e-league.com), then we can meet up on the AIM chatroom and play from there

Soory about the double-post. Just thought I'd update that I won a FNM yesterday with an Elf/Verdant Succession/Nantuko Husk deck 8)

Ack!! I can't stand it anymore! Gene's deck makes my head hurt to much!!!
Really, is it possible to make a more inconsistent deck? It's not bad enough that you're running three colors, it's not bad enough that your mana-fixing is limited to 4 Birds and 4 Cities, it's not bad enough that you don't have a single kill card that doesn't require multiple colored mana, it's not bad enough that the only kill cards you have that could actually threaten a real deck cost 7, on top of all this you manage to make your deck even slower by adding Living Wish! Although I suppose this deck wouldn't notice that kind of slow down, since I doubt it's capable of consistently casting anything else on turn 2. I can't imagine this deck threatening UG Madness, Psychotog, Wake, or Slide even a little bit. The only reason you have even a shadow of a chance against RG Beatdown or Goblins are the Phantom Nishobas.
And some of the cards in your deck defy reason! Is there any reason to have Seedborn Muse in your deck other than to make the far-to-costly Dragon Roost more effective or provide an almost neglible combat advantage? And why oh why would you ever play Price of Glory at all, much less maindeck? And Serra's Embrace? Has no one explained to you how amazingly powerful a Creature Enchantment has to be before it even gets close to being worth the risk of card-disadvantage?
I mean, egad. Go to Brainburst and read about some real decks.

Does it bear more than a passing resemblance to the old deck? If so then most if not all of my comment still apply.
