So help me out, here. Does it matter which codec you used on the video? Will it play only .mov's, or did apple open it up to .avi's and .mpg's? I would consider buying one if it lets me watch videos other than apple produced or apple encoded ones.

Thanks!

the ipod plays .mov and .mp4 videos, but i have a program (cucsoft ipod video converter)that converts almost every file to mp4. or if it dosnt convert i use virtual dub to reencode it then use the cucusoft ipod video converter to change it to mp4. it works great.

also i spent another $100 for a home dock. it is the size of a vcr tape, i plug it into my tv or sterio system or my tv in my truck, and i can watch what is on my ipod or hear the music. i love it. it is an entire home entertainment system in a compact package.

Yeah. personally, i bought the 30 gig model and it's great. the screen is very nice and crisp, good sound too especially if you buy better earbuds. anywho, the only downsides are: 1. you probably dont store your movies in mp4 format, and converting every video takes a while. 2. depending on the conversion software you use, you might lose some image and/or sound quality. if you dont mind waiting a while and are picky about the software you use to convert your amv's, this is certainly a great little gadget
