My new dramatic Sailor Moon AMV

Post by SailorCardKnight » Fri Jun 22, 2007 7:58 pm

Hello, i'm SailorCardKnight. I'm not exactily new here (i'm usually one of those people who linger in the shadows), this is this not my first AMV either, but it is my first time posting in this section, so its a pleasure to meet you all!

I just recentily finished my epic new AMV. I used the last 2 episodes of the first season of Sailor Moon (the japanese version) and the song I used is Forsaken by Within Temptaion. So far I think its one of my best dramatic AMVs yet. I hope you guys enjoy it and I would love to hear what you think of it! (And if your a Sailor Moon fan, I have some other AMVs you might want to check out.)

EDIT (6-26-07) : Audio has been fixed!

Day of Destiny is not so bad. The editing style is classic, the anime is classic, I like the song. Would normally be a keeper....

The problem is, you should have left your audio and video quality back in the 90s where they belong. You had horrid crackling, and I know you could do better for video source than this. The series may no longer be licensed, but DVDs (crappy as the ADV quality was, it isn't this bad) can be had. If you DID use DVDs, please check your pre-processing, your export, and your encode. Video need not look like this anymore. Sure, in 1999 it did. Not so anymore...

Clean it up, and I'll keep it.

the mp4: seemed fine to me video quality wise (aspect ratio aside) untill i blew it up to fill screen, then it got fuzzy.. it might look good on my ipod though (tiny screen)... theres also a bit of crackling in the audio...

the divx file: higher resolution, coulda used a bit of cleaning (though i dont see it entirely necessairy to enjoy the video), and the audio still crackles... but looks like the R1 ADV release of the DVDs crop off the black lines on the top and bottom and fix the aspect ratio then its all good to go.. visually.. imho
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
the only thing that really "bothered" me was the crackling of the audio because it was in both versions.. O.o
usually videos that focus on these (what 3?) eps.. really get old and annoy me because there are so many of them, but the song and the mood worked so well together i actually rather enjoied it.. keep up the good editing
I DO have the actual DVDs, and thats where I copied the episodes from. Everytime I copy episodes from my DVDs, I keep figuring out ways to improve the quality of the files every time. So yeah, i'll keep exparimenting with that.
I added the back bars on purpose, to kinda add a damatic feel. Its also a good thing I added them too, because in the animation when the scene changed, an ugly line would appear at the bottom of the screen, so the bars help cover it up.
As for the audio, I didn't notice the crackling sound until I was finishing up the final battle scene. Well, I noticed it before when I was listening to the CD in the car, but I thought it was because the speakers where going bad. So i'll look for a better quality mp3 of the song and fix the sound quality at least, and upload a new copy. (Yes, I downloaded the song, I will admit it, so shoot me. But at least I actually bought the DVDs before they went out of print.)
But dispite the problems, i'm glad both of you guys like it! And I will try and keep figuring out ways on how I can improve the quality of my AMVs, you can count on it!
It wasn't bad. The editing was good. The quality could of been a lot better. And yeah the audio crackling was annoying.
As a SM fan I've seen many of these kinds of videos, and well, I rather liked this one. I wont hit on the points already brought up, but one suggestion about your audio if you don't already know is to convert your mp3 into wav. Often times I find that will clear up crackling in the audio. As a rule of thumb, you shouldn't be editing with MP3s anyway.
I look forward to more from you ^^
If you have any suggestions on where to find uncut DVDs I'd love to hear them.
I'll check out the video later, but one suggestion for crackling in the video--you can clip out the offending frames in either pre or post processing via virtualdub very easily.
