Laputa Vid with Chinese Song (My 2nd AMV)

Post by Heaven_and_hell_is_earth » Sat Jul 14, 2007 7:35 pm

Hi everyone,

Firstly, vid details:

I invited anyone to make an appropriate AMV with this song in the AMV Suggestions forum (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=81367), but since nobody came forward, I decided to take the plunge and do it myself.

The song is by famous Chinese singer Teresa Teng. I first heard it at the end of the series Martial Law and although I didn't understand the lyrics, I was able to connect emotionally with it. I first saw Laputa some 15yrs ago, but it is still one of my favorite anime of all time. The inspiration for doing the AMV was that I thought the song matched Pazu and Sheeta's relationship well. This vid is in total contrast to my first one, and I surprised myself by being able to use a few programs from AMVapp.

Any thread comments, ops or quick comments are most welcome!

Oh, one last thing, here are the translated lyrics (from http://edonn.com/archives/2003/09/moon/):

You ask me how deep my love for you is,
How much I really love you…
My affection is real.
My love is real.
The moon represents my heart.

You ask me how deep my love for you is,
How much I really love you…
My affection does not waver,
My love will not change.
The moon represents my heart.

* Just one soft kiss
is enough to move my heart.
A period of time when our affection was deep,
Has made me miss you until now.

* You ask me how deep my love for you is,
How much I really love you.

* ** Go think about it.
Go and have a look [at the moon],
The moon represents my heart.

Repeat *

Repeat **

I'd give this a relatively solid 3.9/5

You did a very nice job of matching the tone of the song with the clips being showed and overall I'd say these two sources (audio and video) were a very nice mix together. I have just 2 suggestions for you.
1) You need to try to improve video quality, just a tad. This was nice, but far from perfect.
2) I'd almost suggest making softsubs for this video. It seemed to go together so well, but I didn't like that I was unsure of what was being said. And posting lyrics to the song are nice, but they just didn't do the same thing for me that subtitles would have done (soft subs not hard subs please).

Overall this video was quite nice though. Carried a very relaxed mood the entire time and this video managed to have a very nice impact on me, despite said complaints.

Soft Subs aren't easy, I can do them, but first nail the quality down ;)

This thread has peaked my curiosity. Maybe.
