Perfect Strangers Ordeal (Yusf)

Post by Yusf » Sun Mar 09, 2008 9:03 pm

After two "extraterrestrial" videos, Hypnerotomachia and Aspirations, the first having been much more apreciated than the second, here's my new clip, a much more "regular" one, shorter, but on which I've put great efforts.

It was the song World Waits on Hypnerotomachia, now it's Set It On Fire, another song of the same singer, Jeremy Enigk, that matches the images of the animation movie Tokyo Godfathers.

All I've got to say is on the video, all you've got to do is try it.
It's a drama, and it's called Perfect Strangers Ordeal.

Now this I can get behind! You took a different look at the source material, mixed up some interesting emotional moments, and although most of your effects were standard stuff, they all felt natural and enhanced what you had going on.

Add that to a nice crisp audio choice and you're onto a winner! My only complaint would be that it was a little on the slim side and I would've liked to have seen a little more of the core three characters of the source movie.

Still, a keeper. Good work.

I liked your last couple of videos, and this one is no exception. Nice editing, and good choice for audio make this a great video to watch.

I wanted to make this video a long time ago, so as soon as I got the DVD (by chance actuallly), I started working on it.

it is a concentrated piece of video, its effects aren't revolutionary, I agree, but some people can really apreciate what I would call the "pace" of this AMV.
it is not really the kind of videos I like to make, so I'm not planing to continue on this way, but I'm not afraid of going out of my style if the feeling gets me...

I could write critics of this AMV that are way more severe than the few ones I received until now here and in other forums.

Didn't read sth.
I'm downloading cause I need amvs to obey my thirst!

EDIT:
I'm willing to buy Tokyo Godfathers for myself now for sometime, but I haven't seen this anime right now, so I can't get fully into that vid now. Anyway I recognized the flow throughout the amv and the sync is ok. The only thing that distracts this work is that imo some effects are overdone, which disturbs the harmony of the video.

PS: I did lots of ratings and QCs today, and your video isn't listed in my star ratings anymore, so I apologize for a potential QC that you get, which may be meant for another video! But I'm confident that I wrote you the right one %-).

I received your nice QC masterGT... the one you didn't mean for this video...
my reaction was like..."sure it is", sure it is much better than this. :)

if you're reading this masterGT, I'd like you to complete your critic by detailing the effects part, I'd like to know which effects you think are "overdone".
of course anyone here can express his opinion about this point.

This one didn't affect me as much. I don't really know why. Maybe the focus was too broad... there were so many characters I didn't really know what was going on most of the time. Still, that caused me to just sit back and take it all in instead of trying to think it all through. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I did Hypnerotomachia.

the characters sould look as perfect strangers to you, even once you've seen the video. you're witnessing something... that's all.

Sorry, for not responding ealier. I was on Easter holidays, but better late than never.
Here my thoughts to the effects:
~01:03: Here it looks like a zoom in, brief zoom out and zoom in. I think this could be executed better, or maybe let this short zoom aside.
01:12: I think there are too much red flashes according to the beats.
01:18: The horizontal and vertikal cuts before are looking nice, but I don't like this angular cut.
01:21: the white bars (left and right) are distracting because this is the only time they are used in the whole video.
01:28...: The grainy effect (I don't know if its in the source anime or not) is too heavy for my thoughts. A bit smoother should look better I think.

Despite this peanuts, I enjoyed the video.
Btw: Your mpeg video you assigned as "High Quality" isn't a good encode for that. You should try to encode a mp4 (x264) file, then you have the same (or better) quality with about 1/5 of the mpeg size ;).
