A Damn Good Time (Bleach)
So this is random for me. Been making videos since 2001, have a total of 3 on the site now... and this isn't just my first time posting one on the forum, but first time posting on the forum period. Oh well, better late than never and all that!
This vid marks the first music video of any type I've created for near enough 5 years. Quite a lengthly break! I'd been desparate to do one for a while but I only go ahead when I feel I've got a really good idea I can make work well.
What I came up with this time is a tribute to Grimmjow Jaegerjaques from Bleach with the song "Don't Stop me Now" by Queen. Might seem like an odd choice but that's why I went there, I felt I had potential to make a genuinely funny and entertaining vid that still retained a high degree of quality and felt like it "made sense", but that it would be a pretty big challenge to really get it to work. Many, many hours later, this is my result!
Thanks for watching if you check it out! Be warned there's some slightly ridiculous lip synching but it was intended in a camp comical way! Would love some feedback if anyone has any to offer!

Wow... lol
Okay this is great, and yet sooooo wrong, haha. I love it! The lip sync at the beginning is the best! Especially the part "I feel ali-iiiive", I cracked up! But there is some seriously good work here, imo. I love the effect at the beginning where you go from b&w to color on the beats. Good stuff. Although I have to admit that it was nearly painful for me to watch the whole thing, partly because of spoilers as I am behind on Bleach, but partly because of the wrongness of this song being Grimjow's theme song, lol. Can't wait to see your next one, how bout not making us wait five years yeah?

Thanks very much for the response! I'm actually a bit worried to hear though that the song choice for Grimmjow almost makes it hard to sit through. I thought it worked well in a comical, camp and fun sort of way but err, almost sounds like it's offputting to people? Hmm, oh well I'll probably play it a little more safe with future videos. I'm a big Queen fan though so I didn't honestly see an issue but I guess I have a biased view of the song's suitability.

Yeeeeep... I haven't watched it yet (slow download speed) but one thing I did notice was that the audio was in PCM format? I'm pretty sure if you had compressed it to mp3 and then muxed it (I think that's the technical term) then you would have knocked 20-30 megs off the final file size...
This is AbsoluteDestiny and Ermac's guide
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/
At the very bottom on the left you'll see 'compressing audio to mp3 (recommended)' - that should have the step by step instructions on how to do it. The guide is very technical but it also has step by step procedures that are easy to follow, and it's easy once you get the hang of it.
And btw I'm looking forward to seeing your vid because it sounds like it's a crazy mix, which is my kind of thing... ^^

Watched it now, and for starters, I really liked the concept and thought it was a fun vid. I don't know Bleach that well, so I wouldn't have gotten any in-jokes or references to the storylines, but still enjoyed it. ^^
Here are some suggestions, if you're interested... (I'm not sure which program you're using)
Around 0.22 The camera seems to zoom in at odd times or to jump forward... I assume that was because the source footage was zooming in, and you wanted to lipsync so you didn't use contiguous parts? Perhaps a better option would be to export each frame and use those to lipsync - with some photoshop editing it wouldn't zoom in (or you could somehow add the zoom later, but it would get rid of that jumping)
Around 0.38 - I don't get the sub. (it's got 6?)
And some of the single black frames seemed a bit odd to me, but if you're happy with it, it's cool.
And I agree with Vivaldi... that link I gave you before should have a 'how to deinterlace' section in it.
Cheers!

Hey, thanks for the comments.
The sub in the vid for the record is on the raw source footage and is unavoidable, as it displays the character's name and rank in his introduction but I hadn't considered it a big enough deal to bother about. Thinking about it now I might go back and change it to a different scene as it annoys me a bit that it's the only sub in the video.
To be honest I'd been looking at the de-interlacing guides while in the middle of the video and had considered doing it but in the end I just I coudn't be bothered as being out of things for so long had left me in the mood where I just wanted to "get it done." Considering every other video I'd made before this in my life had been exported to low quality RM I figured this was a drastic improvement as is, though I'll try to be more precise in future videos about these things now that I'm more aware that it's an issue.
You're spot on with the lip synching by the way. It felt a mess while I was editing that part honestly and at times I'd thought about cutting the entire scene from the vid but again I'd took a sort of lazy approach and thought it was "good enough" and just kind of left it as is to get on with the rest.
So yeah, most issues have arose from the fact this was my first video in half a decade I think, as I just felt like pressing on through each scene and focusing on the editing and the "fun parts" as it'd been so long. I'll do my best to fix this up for future work though, thanks very much for the advice.

You're welcome! ^-^
Ummm... there was one more bit that I forgot to mention before... ^^;;;;
When the camera zooms in, sometimes it zooms in so much that the image becomes all blocky - I think that's too much zoom, or perhaps a blur would help mask it, or something (e.g. around 1.14-1.15). If you're using Premiere, you can set keyframes to determine the amount of blur at different points in the timeline.
I hope mentioning these improvements isn't getting you down, because it was a good vid, and they were all things which weren't really the core of the video, if you know what I mean. I noticed it, but it didn't detract from the overall impression of the video. The best thing about the video is that I really can imagine Grimmjow singing that to Ichigo, and it looks like Ichigo is completely stunned and bewildered by it. And it makes Grimmjow look totally up himself, too. XP
Perhaps you might like to get someone to beta your video? There is an "opinion exchange" forum... I've never used it but I THINK if you offer to give an opinion on someone else's vid, then you can ask them to beta yours (but megaupload your video or something... don't put a beta on the org because you can't remove it or replace it unless you get a mod's permission, and they don't like that.)
Or there's AMV-review (see a sticky post in the opinion exchange forum), and they say you can drop in any time for a beta, as long as someone there can do it.
Anyway, it would help to pick up these minor things.
And also, my advice... if you do get an opinion from someone, don't worry too much if they criticise the concept or execution, as long as you're happy with it. My impression of this place is that people each carry their opinions really strongly, and they're all quite different opinions. (but to hear some technical touch-ups would be good, and you'd probably end up agreeing with it anyway.)
Kudos!
