New FFX AMV: Shuyin's Choral Fantasy

Post by Dark Lord of Debate » Wed Nov 19, 2008 11:05 pm

Well I was hoping to wait until I could upload this locally but it doesn't look like the upload server is going to be fixed any time soon. So I put it up as a direct download and will go ahead and announce it now.

This video is a first for me on a number of levels: my first purely instrumental video, my first video that's not strictly drama/action, and my first video using an original song mix--of an awesome choral/organ piece by a production music group called Extreme Music.

This is kind of a "what if" video, where I used familiar clips from FFX to tell a completely different story than the actual game. I got the basic idea for this video when listening to this song and it hit me that the organ music would go great with the scene from from FFX-2 where Shuyin plays the organ, and I thought of creating an AMV structured as a kind of organ concert.

As the video developed, I got the idea to reverse the realities of the game's storyline, where instead of Yuna singing about the deaths of Shuyin and Lenne, Shuyin is playing the organ while having visions of the events that actually happened to him happening to Tidus and Yuna instead. The scene where Shuyin activates the Colossus Vegnagun and Yuna's Nightmare form the centerpiece of the video, interspersed with other scenes from FFX and X-2, which complete Shuyin's vision of Yuna and Tidus. Yuna's Nightmare thus becomes the new reality of the video, and the actual events of game are the dream.

My goal with this video was to create a truly original Final Fantasy X video that would stand out from the crowd of so many AMV's to that title. I guarantee you it certainly has the most unique ending. :P Check it out, and tell me what you think!

I like your confidence.
Nice concept. I enjoyed the organ-synch. Good mix-job on the song too--sounded seamless to me.

Thanks! Glad you liked it. Does anyone have any suggestions that might help before I enter it in some contests early next year?

I seriously thought that the ending in this video was the ending of the second game since I could not stand X-2 enough to play it through. I like originality in videos and making something of the story that is totally different than what happened.

As for everything else. The beginning half had some power to it. Like WHAM in the face. But it seemed to drag on and slow down and lose that punch just past half way through. Maybe if the song was just 20 or 30 seconds shorter this would not have happened but what are you gonna do.

IMO... send this little puppy out as is and see what happens.
