The thing about only having a mood sync without a storyline is it can only go so far. Honestly I could feel the heavy atmosphere but wasn't really impacted enough to be considered sad at all while watching this. Seeing people moping around isn't as powerful as seeing why they are doing so. I commend you for your fx work but honestly, if you had incorporated some kind of soft story into this the mood would of been a lot more gripping for the audience not to mention IMO a lot more enjoyable. Damn man this had the potential to be epic as hell.

Well at the very least it was a pleasant Muzak amv. Can't say I've seen a Muzak AMV before or at least an AMV that gave off that kind of feeling. 4/5

My 2cents: I wouldn't call this finished yet, unless you’re tired of working on it. It seem to give off that impression anyway.
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

If only I had a more ornate english vocabulary to express the greatness of this amv, but I just have to let you get away with this compliment. You know, I was completely amazed by the fourth picture you posted. It has the best composition in the whole amv (lights, shadows, colors are just perfect). Thank you! :)

OropherZero, obviously we define the word "AMV" a little different. I am a total bitch when it comes to technical things and it's my believe that there is no need for a story to make a perfect video. There can be other things that combine scenes together. It doesn't have to be a story. It can also be a location a situation, a shared problem or even emotions. You might want to watch some videos made by Digital Kitchen, especially True Blood, which has inspired me a lot throughout the process of this video. There is no real story there either. It's just one composition or shot after another. I really love that kind of editing and I am not the only one, since this studio is damn successful.

I appreciate your input, but I don't think so...

It doesn't only seem that way, but there is in fact no story. I'm glad that you enjoyed my video 8-)

I'm not to sure, where in the word "Anime Music Video" it says that there has to be a story? Thus I can't understand the word "lacked". If you watched MTV Music Videos for a day, for example, I am sure you won't find to many that have a story...

I hope I didn't sound too ignorant. After all, I love your feedback :D

...Which is one of the reasons the vast, vast majority of MTV videos completely suck.

The problem with the lack of a story in this video is that you're obviously trying to convey emotions. This is difficult if not impossible to do without context. We see all these people crying and looking sad, but we don't know why, so why the hell should we care? I can understand your "color scheme" thing throughout the video, and that's cool (I always appreciate meaningful use of color), but again...so what?

Basically, this concept (meaning the integration of real backgrounds, the compositing techniques, etc.) would have worked really well if you had dropped the pretense of emotional depth altogether and just made a cool-looking video. I can like videos that just look good and don't really "mean" anything, and I can like videos that tell a story and are fully interpretable. It's these in-between videos that really bug me, because they feel so half-assed.

Besides that though, the video was just close-up after close-up after close-up...it felt so static and boring and repetitive, regardless of how pretty everything else was.

I pretty much agree with Crack. While this was pretty to look at, it wasn't much else. As said before, we see all these character sad and crying and whatnot, but we don't know why, makes it pretty hard to give a shit about their problems or emotions in the video. I definitely appreciate the use of color corrections, and the scene compositions were nice, but that's all the video really is.

2/5 from me. I liked the effort and the editing/effects etc. themselves, but with nothing else behind it to back it up this is just another sappy shinkai video.
