Back without the Black

Post by AMVguru » Fri Oct 09, 2009 1:47 pm

So it's been awhile but i got some new AMVs to check out, so CHECK THEM OUT!!

1st- Life on a swing: This is my Clannad AMV that first got me back in my rythem. it sports no magic effects at all. but i feel that the objective was achieved non the less.
it's basically an AMV compiling all the joy that occurs in Clannad.

At least watch the Preview!

2nd- The Broken Bond: This is the most i've ever used masking to date and as u can see i still room for improvement but i think that it does quite well. now unfortunatly because the song is made by Seether so it cannot be downloaded  but i do have it on youtube if u wanna watch it there. depending on the feedback i may try to upload it onto an other site

To use the video vidid option. Just type in the numbers after the "=" in your amv's url, highlight the number, and then click the "vidid" button that is located under the bold, italic, and underline buttons.

This is how it looks:

Ok, now that I have that out of the way, lets get on to my critique.

I really enjoyed watching this amv. It has a few problems here and there, but it made me smile. Really, the main issue with this amv is it's pacing. Some of the clips that were sped up were sped up too fast. And the clips that were slowed down were slowed down too much. And also, some of the timings were off by just a bit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this amv has the familiar symptoms of a video edited with windows movie maker.

Oh and back to what i said before, I really enjoyed this amv. The concept was perfect, and I love how you used characters besides Nagisa and Tomoya. I just wish you had introduced the other characters better. For example, Sunohara and Kotomi were kinda thrown into the amv without really being introduced. But besides from that, this amv really gives off the feeling of a town of people living and enjoying their everyday lives.

If I have time next week, I'll write a detailed opinion for this amv, so for now, I'll just give you a rating.
I give this amv a 3.2 / 5
You really did a nice job at giving feeling to this video.

Thank you :D i will be sure to do better on my next AMV and thanks for the vidid tip that will be extremly useful. the program i used was sony vegas actually but i have vry little experiance with it, and prior to that program i did use movie maker so that could be where that fault comes from  .

Sorry man, couldn't enjoy this one single bit.
But that's not your fault at all, it's just that it's my number one favorite song, which I have had plans on making a video to at some point.
So I already have a crystal-clear picture of how I'd want a video for this song to be.
The general editing wasn't half bad, and the concept was decent too.
I just have a set-in-stone image of the song already. So yeah :?

A nice try though

Good luck on future videos!

I love this song, which may have something to do with the fact that I really enjoyed this video.

Good stuff man

I really liked the feel of the song with the clips you chose. Overall I really enjoyed the video.

One complaint I had was the video felt squished vertically at times, like a widescreen source compressed to 4:3.

I'm not sure if Vegas 8 is the same (I'm using 9 Pro) - things might be different for you. Anyway, one thing you can check is for File \ Properties \ Pixel Aspect Ratio for the entire project settings as well as right clicking the individual clips in Project Media and making sure the Properties have the same aspect ratio between the two. Use 1.2121 if your source is widescreen.

Then when you go to render, play around in the options with the pixel settings (ex: 640x480 for 4:3 and 640x360 or 720x404 for widescreen). I'm no expert with Vegas, but thought I'd throw the suggestion out there.

Finally, you might get better resolution per megabyte using h.264 and .mp4 instead of .mpg.

yeah I got the same squished feeling lol, but I assume all those scenes were 'after story' so.

All in all though, great video! At first I didn't really like it, but then I realized how perfect it was :) I don't know how else to put it, it grew on me! :/

Pure cut amvs can be done in avery enjoyable way too. :)

This amv was a nice try. You should focus more on the quality, but the flow of the scenes, and the synchronization with the lyrics was good. The song was a good choice for Clannad.

Oh and mpg... It brings back memories. :D
