Melancholy

Post by Rinny » Mon Nov 23, 2009 8:47 pm

Footage: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Music: "Tragedy" by Celldweller

I decided to make a serious Haruhi video, and it was definitely a fun challenge. This video examines the love triangle between Kyon, Haruhi and Yuki and the jealousy that emerges. It premiered this past weekend at Anime USA 2009 and took third place in drama.

Lots of critique would be really appreciated! Thanks!

Great intro <3 loved was quite original and went really well with the song...
But than right after you went from PURE effects to just plain scenes.. you shud hav made that transition more smooth, the scene in the middle where you have the girls face on the desk was played almost 3 times which I didn't like one bit But storyline was great I enjoyed it!

8/10

Keep it up man

All I can say is "GOD DAMN, THAT WAS AWESOME". Wait a minute. On second thought......I think I can say even more. LOL

This is definitely the most original Haruhi AMV that I have ever seen. You made great use of both seasons, and I love how you managed to give Yuki and Haruhi equal attention. I personally feel that occasionally, your timings and internal syncs were just a bit off. But this AMV is so intense that it doesn't even really matter. You truly did an outstanding job.

I truly am surprised that you didn't win. You must have had unbelievable competition.

Like I said, the only critique that I can offer is that your beat / cut sync and your internal sync could have been improved at some points. For example, sometimes when you showed a character walking, it seemed that their walking speed was just a little too fast for that part of the song. I think that this is especially true towards the end where you have Haruhi, Yuki, and Kyon walking in different directions (3:10-3:15). I think that slowing down Kyon's, Yuki's, and Haruhi's walk would have made their bodies move to the beat of the song and improved the scene. I would have loved to be a beta tester for amv. But anyway, this amv is still one of the best Haruhi videos that I've seen.

And also, you should really get this a local download. If you don't know how, I'd be more than willing to help you. :-) And if you do get this a local, I'd definitely give it an OP.

Another useful tip is to use the vidid option when announcing you AMVs. It automatically post all the video's information for you so that it looks organized and you don't have to type it yourself. It ends up looking like this.

And last but not least, I give this AMV a 4.6 / 5
Oh and, I wish I had your intro. It's perfect

first thought was like, Haruhi mpg amv... errrrr, but actually is outstanding as said by kireblue, good song, great scene selection, exc atmosphere, nice fx too, you make this anime looks like pown action seinnen XD

ps. I think you sacrifice a little bit of synch in exchange for intensity and image value and Ilovethat :awesome:

If you don't mind, do you have any suggestions as to how I could make that transition smoother? I had Kyon fall overtop of the footage, showing that he was being rudely awakened from his dream, but it looks like that wasn't entirely successful.

Well now you can, because I took your suggestion and added a local link. :P As for the syncing issue, I agree with you. The instrumental section was a pain in my hide. Thanks for being so thorough!

Done :-) I think that the OP I gave you may actually be the longest one that I have ever typed. It actually took more than a page to type on Microsoft word LOL

But anyway, this AMV deserves a lot more attention that what its been getting. I wonder what's turning people off. It may actually be the title. The word "Melancholy" doesn't really describe the AMV or the series itself very well. Even Nagaru Tanigawa (the creator of the series) said that by the time he realized that "Melancholy" wasn't quite the right word for the series, it was too late for him to change it.

All of my other videos have gotten previews automatically. How do I go about getting one? Is it absent because I have a direct link too, or does it just take some time?

The preview option is automatic
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/forum/v ... it=preview

but currently, there is a problem with it. But it should be fixed soon.
