Re: Party with Haruhi
First of all, let me welcome you to a-m-v.org with your own first AMV!
Now, let me first say that you did a pretty good job for a first AMV. It wasn't perfect, but you did a lt of things right too.
THE GOOD!
You had some pretty good literal sync, which was very funny when used with this source. Kind of like "brands brands Brands" in the opening, or the "hands up" also in the opening. "I want it all" towards the end was a great choice with haurhi on top of the world!
At times, there was really cute/fun editing involved, and I had no choice but to smile in it.
THE Bad...
The lip sync [where you tried to match singing with the music] wasn't very good, and it distracted from the upbeat nature of the song.. Videos like this [while taking a lot of time/effort and energy] is what the top lip sync AMVs look like. But even then, the AMV there had a PURPOSE for the lip sync being there. Lip sync should always have a purpose for being in the AMV. Or, if it wasn't meant to be lip sync, then you should avoid leaving people talking during your AMVs [this is known as lip flap]. This can be masked out [especially with anime like this one]. Actually, I think a lot of the video would have been improved if the lip sync was taken out and just kept up with the literal/upbeat editing. 1:10-1:17 is an example. That could have been REALLY cute and had a lot more movement.
I also want to ask why you letterboxed your AMV? Haurhi is widescreen , but you stuck it inside a fullscreen AMV. The black bars on top and bottom [and the left and right too] aren't necessary, and can distract viewers. Next time, make sure and set your project up to fit the size of the AMV you're making based on the anime's frame size.
Overall, I thought it was a pretty great video for a first timer. It had some issues [namely lip sync], but you show a heck of a lot more talent than most first-time videos, and I sincerely hope that you stick around.
Here are a few guides that might help you out though! It's something that all newcomers should read eventually.

Your comments really mean a lot. I'll try to correct the lip flap where I can, and I'll attempt to figure out where I went wrong with the letterboxing. Thank you.

For a first (or early) AMV, this was quite good! I think your synching (most of the hard cuts) is great and the concept is enjoyable. I'd watch out for any lip flap from characters, though.
