Synopsis [Gurren Lagann x Found/Tonight]

Post by Kireblue » Mon Oct 21, 2024 9:30 am

Ever since 6 years ago when Lin-Manuel Miranda & Ben Platt released their Hamilton / Dear Evan Hansen mashup called Found/Tonight, I've wanted to make a Gurren Lagan AMV with it. So I decided to make it as a non-competing video during Project Org Editor 2024 (an AMV tournament that I judge and coordinate).

The round was "Transmutation", and the challenge was to make a video that focuses on change. So I felt that this idea was a good fit for that. This song combines a lot of the themes of Hamilton and Dear Even Hanson, so I used it to create a "synopsis" of the many changes that occurred during Gurren Lagan. I wanted to showcase a narrative of not only Simon's emotional journey after losing Kamina and finding Nia, but also the change in how dealing with grief is presented in the show. At first, grief is presented as something that made him feel "alone and forgotten", but by the end of the video, he's able to look at grief with a smile and surrounded by friends reflecting on the future and "the story of tonight".
