Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

My first (and probably only) AMV ever.

Post by Utukki » Sun Jul 20, 2003 3:08 am

I am Kurt Perry's (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... r_id=15408) less talented sister. I made this video a couple of years back because I was so impressed with what Kurt had done, and I wanted to give my own AMV a try. It was shown at Sakura-con in Seattle in 2001, and after it was over, someone in the audience said "She should stick to writing fanfiction." (Yes, I write fanfic, and am relatively well known for it. http://www.akane.org/fanfiction)

So I haven't made any videos since then. But I just watched my poor AMV recently, and have decided that it doesn't totally suck, so I decided, what the heck. I'll put it up on the org.

It's a character piece about Yui from Fushigi Yuugi. It's very simple. There's no lip syncing and no special effects, and though I did try to tell a story with the song, it comes nowhere near to being as cool as my brother's videos. (If you haven't seen his AMVs, you should. Really.) ^_^

Anyway, here it is, unchanged from when I first made it over 2 years ago:

My poor ego has already been bruised over it (I stick to writing fanfiction now, thankyouverymuch ^_^), so feel free to critique to your heart's content. Feedback is not only welcome, but appreciated.

Hm. Was that a response to my post or my video? I suppose it could apply either way.... :P

Your video wasn't bad actually... if you kept at it you could get better, much better. I also snuck a peek at some of your fanfics and I loved em. I can see why your known for them. Good writer. The only criticism I have is that some clips just didn't fit with the song. Other than that, I think it was actually a good job. Just work on it a little more before putting it into a comp.

I probably could... I guess I uploaded it partly to see if trying to improve was even worth persuing.

Thanks. :D

Heh. Yes, I think I know which ones you mean. If I do decide to persue AMVing (is that a verb?), I will most likely re-do the video. After my brother gives me a tutorial on Premier and AfterEffects, that is....

Thanks for the feedback. :)

happy to help at anytime, also... on the fanfic side, where would be a good place to post some fanfics without people flaming you for no reason?

To be honest, nowhere on the internet is safe from flaming, with the exeption of some well-moderated mailing lists. The FFML http://ffml.anifics.com/faq.txtis a good place to get constructive criticism for all genres of anime fanfic, and there are specialized fanfic lists for nearly every anime you can think of on Yahoo groups. Hope that helps. And yes, we can take this discussion to PMs if you'd like.
