Just got the vid onto the computer with the sound card and let it fly...here's the reaction.
COOL. The effects are as stated, nice and minimal to keep the attention on the gore. And gore there is. This video gibs Carlos' past attempt at this genre like a .475 Linebaugh to the temple. Mass kudos for largely staying away from the weak attempts at gore found in more mainstream titles and bringing out the little-known dismemberment for increased shock value.
Good points: I especially liked the scene in which those kids are shot to pieces. Too often people forget, or don't want to acknowledge, that the greatest and most extreme forms of brutality are those done to children. This video remembers in gory detail. I also dug the scene towards the end when the dude's head is torn off and the spine follows out the neck. This sort of extreme, innovative, dismemberment is what gore videos are all about: showing off the creative ways people have found to destroy the human form. It reminds me of the mouth-crotch-crotch-mouth double hanging impalement scene from Mystery of the Necronomicon, because it gave the same reaction: "That's totally sick, man. I'd never have thought of that."
Bad points: After the extreme gore of Devil Man, the scenes from Kite and the Kenshin OVAs look like misplaced Hello Kitty footage. Swap it out on the next go-round, it's not extreme enough and everyone's already seen it. Also, what the hell's with the music? Obituary may have been extreme five/ten years ago, but in a world with Mortician, Impaled, Abigor, and Exhumed, there is simply no excuse for music this weak in an extreme gore video. Yes, it's more extreme than Korn, but your goal shouldn't be merely to beat the old standard, but to destroy it entirely. Footage this extreme demands blastbeats, lower-tuned guitars, and real deathgrowl vocals.
A minor point: A lot of this footage is violent gore, which is cool, but in the future you might want to change it up with some torturous gore, especially if you go with a longer and slower-paced song. Fast is fine, but as Incantation, Broken Hope, and Cianide have shown, you can sometimes get a more brutal result by going slower and prolonging the agony.
All around, mass kudos. You have produced a very cool and monumentally sick video, and left yourself some room in terms of progression of brutality if you want to continue the series. You've also inspired me to purchase Devil Man, and to get off my lazy ass, acquire the Violence Jack box, and see about setting that to Death's "Regurgitated Guts". It's been too long since I spread the blood around...

Thanks for the respose. I have Mystery of Necronomicon and others that I have waited to use for a much more brutal vid, I was gonna use something like disgorge or Cannibal Corpse but I decided against it. I was going to use a death metal song for the new GOREGASM, and yes I know the RK OVA and Devil Man, not to mention Bio Hunter are totally over used and pop up in every single "Horror/Gore" videos. Wait for....... GOREGASM 2 !!!!! I astill need some more footage but still have some more to use. And yea the Crying Freeman parts (just people getting shot are just violence and not that much GORE!)

Kai, are you insane? Obituary are a classic Death Metal band and they are perfect for such a video. A lot of t hose Death Metal bands you mentioned have no amv quality songs. It's all fast blast beats bullshit (granted I love that)!

Yes, but that don't really have a bearing here.TokyoU15 wrote:Kai, are you insane?
Yeah, I'll concede that, especially wrt Mortician. You'd need to string together seven or eight songs after you cut out the horror-movie bits to make something of decent length. Still...I dunno. The music just didn't seem to hit hard enough. It didn't have the real explosive punch of something like early Grave or Dismember, and it didn't have the reckless abandon of early Death or Possessed. For 99.9% of the people on this site, it'll be plenty brutal enough, but if you really want to impress, you have to brutalize everyone. It'll be a step up in the next video.TokyoU15 wrote:Obituary are a classic Death Metal band and they are perfect for such a video. Damn, I have to see if I still have my copy of _Let Us Prey_ (Vital Remains' first one), there's a track on there that would be just huge for a video like this...however the cut for the apogee video in this series is probably going to turn out to be something off _Symphonies of Sickness_. It's just too easy to think gore and reach for the Carcass (not like it wouldn't kick major ass, it's Carcass afterall!).
