Wow! I just watched both, and those were some cool videos! However, I really have to say that I like Bluey's much better.
The video and audio quality were great. The scene selection was good, too. I like the way you started and ended it (except with the scenes after 4:30...you should have ended it when it went black). Most (not all) of the effects in bluey's were less subtle, making it blend right in and act as something that helps tell the story. For example, some of the view screen scenes where you used the interlacing look were cool. The lighting changes were what really captivated me, though. The use of higher brightness and well-placed lens flares really brought out the light rays which added the overall "holy" feel to the video. At times, it actually felt like it was judgement day in Ayato's world.
Some of the effects were a bit unnecessary, though. Also, with this kind of song, it's better not to use lip sync except when the singer/choir holds those notes and doesn't sing any words (I can't think of the term right now, but it happens in the very beginning of the song...you know what I'm talking about).
For the other video, I can say a bit, but it's not going to be good. Don't take it as I hate your video, but just take it as something to consider when you're going to make another video. I'm not going to talk about the video quality because that's one thing you couldn't really help.
The use of effects didn't tie in to the theme or story of the video and they also didn't really blend in smoothly. In fact, they were distracting. For example, in the beginning you had a close-up scene of the character with pulse waves coming off of it along with two other smaller boxes with scenes of that character AND a small drawing of the character. It just didn't fit well. Also, at 1:20, you fit the scene into a small oval. I could barely see what was happening in the scene because of that. At 3:00, you used a tunnel warp and a waveform thing melding with the scene of the movie. With all of these things happening in the same place, one on top of another, I couldn't really see what was happening again.
The audio quality was great. The general idea, however, is wonderful! This song and the story of FF7/FF7:AC fit VERY well together. I just feel that the video should be a more simple drama/action video.
*COUGH COUGH GASP*
Did I just write all of that? Damn...I guess I did!

I've watched both more than once, and I have come to a decision as hard as it was.
First, let me say that I LOVE that song with the animes you both chose. And I like the different stances you both took with it (one being more dramatic and the other more action-oriented). They are both good videos.
Killerwog has been helping me (a total newb to MAKING AMVs, but a veteran when it comes to watching them ) with complications arising from inexperience and total cluelessness when it comes to video editing programs. As I told you over MSN Messenger, I think that the effects may be a bit overused, but holding the viewer's attention is the most important thing. It is definitely a worthy contender against Bluey's video. My fiance absolutely adores it.
However, I think that holding back a bit more on the effects works toward Bluey's favor. He has my vote, although my fiance would definitely have voted for Killerwog's entry.
Keep up the great work, guys!

The story of the Source and the story of the AMV are two separate entities. You're a newb, so you're not really expected to know this, so I thought I'd go ahead and tell you. There are plenty of AMVs that completely disregard the story of the source to tell a completely new story.Purge wrote:did either sources have a decent story in the first place lol.aielI_Ileia wrote:I felt that both used unneeded effects that didn't lend to the story

Bluey - Nice video. I liked it, the smooth way that you implemented the effects was a plus for me. (most of them anyway) the best way I can think to describe them is Whisper of the beast style... how some scenes flowed into the next the way you transitioned them with the effects. I liked your use of blur also. well edited. I just didn't like some of the canned effects from Premeire that you threw in there a few places, like the black one with colored line outlines (I forget the name of this filter) but thankfully these are few. Although it doesn't do anything extra for the story, I didn't mind the flashy ones since the song was kinda dancy and upbeat. The effect fit the song in otherwords.
killerwog: As others has said, the effects actually killed your video for me. I liked the video until the effects started comming on the screen :/ I actually think it wouldve been a much better video without them. One reason may be that its Advent children, I don't think the effect style blends well with this source. Very good mood synch though. If it wasn;t for the cheesy effects, I would've had a hard time deciding between the 2.
I'll have to go with Bluey for this one ^^

yeah... and I thought *I* was taking my time lol.Nandez wrote:Damn I remeber when u started this video.
*finished watching the two vids*
and though I'm no big proponent for 'you have too many effects' (especially for Advent Children) or 'you didn't lyrically sinc enough' (on either video ;p- and again I'm glad you both didn't let lyrical sync own you)
So both videos were pretty awesome, but the slowing issues on Killerwog's video made me choose Bluey's (that... and cuz I watched Bluey's beta that sorta' added to the excitement lol).
