Forum rules
Please observe the following unique rules for this forum:
  • Please limit your new threads (not replies) to one per week. If you have several new videos to announce, create one thread for all the videos. (Note: if you forget one you can edit your post!)
  • Offsite links are allowed, but you are required to have a catalog entry for that video as well. Threads announcing videos that do not contain a catalog entry will be moved to the Awaiting Catalog Entry sub-forum and will be deleted in 2 weeks if an entry is not created.
  • When posting announcements, it is recommended that you include links to the catalog entries (using the video ID) in your post.
  • Videos that do not contain anime are allowed to be announced in the Other Videos section and are not required to have catalog entries.

We're All In This Together - First AMV Try

Post by Roc_Ragna » Sun Nov 19, 2006 11:40 pm

Hey everyone. I've been popping in and out of the forums lately, and finally I've finished my first AMV. Everything should be explained in the video profile, which can be found here:

I worked really hard on this, and I hope everyone likes it. Please send my any feedback, as I don't want to stay at this level of editing for long.

Oh and Azumanga Daioh and Angelic Layer work pretty well together! I hope.

Haha, and with all your commenting on videos here lately, I thought you were a regular I didn't recognize :P

Welcome then.

I see what you were going for here, and I think on the "light-and-enthusiastic" level, it definitely worked. Certainly nothing dramatic here, nothing eye-straining either.

Except the field problems. Please check what you're doing with that - everything with the video is technically fine except the funky fields (I'm sure you can see those pixely outlines as well as I can). And they are very annoying.

If you're wondering as far as the match-of-sources - sure. I don't think the styles meshed in as much, but the mood did, provided people more or less get the premise of the Angelic Layer bits not being aggressive fighting as such.

I think you sort of played it too safe with the scenes, limiting yourself pretty much to just a few from each show, more or less in full. That's where the video gets a bit static. It also gets more consistent as far as visual and mood, but it's up to you if that's a good thing.

Otherwise, I'm not a fan of the "well done for a first video" approach - so, hopefully you realize the limits of this. Which I think you do, since instead of chasing any kind the visual fanciness or originality, you did something relatively straightforward, but quite decently.

Keep at it! Just fix those fields and do try something a little more adventurous :)
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Not my type of video, however, you may want to consider compressing your audio. There isn't much difference between a LAME encode and PCM, except for maybe when your working with sources recorded a long time ago or just poorly.

Thanks for the comments! I'll check the guides on how to deal with the fields, and I'll give audio compression a try next time too.

For a first AMV, this was not bad at all. It wasn't astounding, but you did mood sync pretty well. I'd work on fields and compress the audio (like the other two said), and try to expand on the amount of episodes you use.

3.5/5 (Slightly better than average)
